Once again, major newspapers, led by The New York Times, have spilled secrets that will make Americans less safe and the war on terror harder to win. No doubt, Pulitzers are in order. We hope they're proud.
The decision by The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal to print details of the government's secret program to monitor terrorists' finances couldn't come at a worse time.
It is a key part of our effort to dismantle the global terrorist threat and to render al-Qaida and its allies financially impotent. It worked so well, in fact, that both Republicans and Democrats asked newspapers not to print the story.
Just how good was it?
"The program," the L.A. Times said, "is considered a potent weapon in the war on terrorism because of its ability to clandestinely monitor financial transactions and map terrorist webs."
No doubt true. So why publish anything at all if it will ruin a legal program that works at rooting out terrorists?

It's going to be tough competition with all those MSM folks blowing the lid off the Oil-For-Food program.
Forget investigations. We need boiling oil, pitchforks and feathers to deal with these treasonists.
No....a rope.
Why would they try to kill themselves? Sounds like suicide to me.
They think they will just watch others being killed and they will just write about it.
They don't seem to get it, that the terrorists want to kill us all, they don't make distinctions between Republicans, Democrats or various professions.
It looked at bank transfers in the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, or SWIFT, system to track the financial activities of terrorists and their friends.
______________
So I wonder who at the times is considered "a friend". What common friends are there? - and where exactly does the money trail stop within the times (or post)?
The MSM just want to protect their terrorist friends.
The New York Times is showing itself to be an enemy of its own country, yet I don't see any real anger from the White House. If anything, Tony Snow was playing defense yesterday at his presser. He was defending the program instead of launching an attack at the Times. Where's Bush? Where's the outrage? Cheney sounded more sad than mad at his speech yesterday.
The Times should have ALL of their credentials yanked. Helping terrorists MUST NOT be tolerated.
As for the Cindy Sheehans inside the government who must've leaked this in a deliberate effort to harm Bush and increase the chances of another 9/11 happening on his watch, they should be prosecuted BEFORE any of our accused troops are prosecuted for what they might've done in the heat of battle.
Take note: These traitors are willing to spill all the liberal blood it takes.
Licorice: "Me and my homies decided we would be safer if you people would hang
some of these seditious traitors already beginning with Bill Keller and
my Mistress' ex-competition, Emma Gilbey, now Ms. Keller."
Bush & Co. 'should' be working overtime to find out which no doubt DemRat SOBs are leaking this stuff to the pressholes. If/when he does find out, that's the people he needs to expose and deal with, and severely. This is the last straw, as far as I'm concerned. I honestly think boycotting the sponsors of these leftwing MSM outlets won't do any good, since we've already pretty much been boycotting them. Maybe it's time that Americans rise up and speak out en masse against this journalistic treason.
If the Bush Justice Department doesn't think this is a big deal, who are we to complain?
Does anyone remember the infamous Walter Duranty, N.Y. Times reporter and Pulitzer winner? He was nothing but a shill for Stalin and lied in his reports when he KNEW very well what was happening during Stalin's collectivization and mass purges.
He was wined and dined and celebrated upon his return to the USA - by the elite.
Santayana's well known adage holds true for the Times: "Those who don't remember the past are condemned to relive it".
I'm getting the impression my Republican representation in congress is due a spinal infusion. there had better be some screams for heads coming from the White House and congress over this.
Everyone ignores one obvious reason why these newspapers release this information.
It is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. No one wants to talk about it.
1. They release the information because they are on the side of the terrorists and are doing their espionage work for them. Liberals have found that if they condemn classified information as "abuse of power," then they can call themselves "whistleblowers" instead of spies. Then they get lauded for their courage.
