The poll gap between Sen. George Allen and Democratic challenger James Webb stands at just over five points, according to a Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll released this morning.

Webb defeated Harris Miller in the June Democratic primary to earn the right to challenge Allen in November. Today's poll has Allen favored by 48.8 percent of likely voters, Webb by 43.3 percent.

Any poll associated with Zogby is biased, imo.

The push polls like these are a joke. I for one at best will lie to these polls if they call. At worst I will hang up on them. How valid is their sample if enough people do as I do?

How was media coverage of Webb's primary victory there? If there was wall to wall screaming about a "WEBB VICTORY" this alone would have an impact. Remember 2004, when Kerry won in Iowa and all of a sudden, based on the votes of only a few thousand Democrats in one state, Kerry all of a sudden was huge news. They made it sound like he was the great savior for the Dems and the nation after he beat Howard Dean. GWB's approval rating had been 63% barely 5 weeks earlier. But after Kerry's "mandate" in Iowa, he was actually ahead of the president in some polls. Pretty scary how voters can be manipulated so easily.

I agree about Zogby - but how are the WSJ polls?

I guess Webb's anti-Semitism hasn't hurt him. It might even be helping him.

I wish Allen would stop worrying about his presidential run at this point and concentrate on his Senate Run. He's gotta win this race if he wants to run and its getting awfully close.

Yeah, I don't think Allen is the right guy for President anyway. I'd give it to Mike Pence.

I'm not an Allen fan and probably WON"T vote for him in the primaries if he runs but if he wins the primaries he's got my vote for president!

Of course. If he's the nominee, I'm certainly not going to sit it out. I just think that he's not as genuine as Pence. He might be a good choice for VP, though. VA is teetering on the Blue, and could break the GOP lock on the South.

I wish you'd quit accusing Allen of that. He's paying plenty of attention to his Senate race.

This is a zombie psyops poll. webb will not get Virginia to send him to the senate. Remember zombie is KNOWN for over polling rats and is the genius who insisted frenchie would win in a landslide with 310 EC votes right up until 3PM on Election Day.

It was a WSJ/Zogby poll which indicates the WSJ paid in part for it. Zogby's credibility has been shot since 2002.

And...this poll is taken after Webb's primary victory...where he has been all over the news lately.

Let's see how the numbers look in Sept/Oct.
