But for most, a missile was too distant, too unlikely a threat to interrupt their daily lives. ``A better question is when's the next earthquake,'' Ernie De Matteis said as he flipped through a newspaper in San Francisco.

Plenty of nutbars in SF probably would rather they perished in a nuclear flash than allow the possibility that the U.S. may become "safe" from attack in even a limited fashion and be able to defend themselves. Self defense seems to be an alien concept to these retards, IMO.
Is there some organization I can donate money to encourage the Guardian not to cover stories in the United States?
The Guardian is a juicy target for a good fisking from Freepers. The NYT is too old, boring, tired, stale, and clinched in writing styles. You got some humours in writing. Besides, it is British so they really know nothing about the United States. ;-)
Stateside we have been exposed to missiles more so since Bill Clinton gave China the technology to target us with new guidance systems.
Then to put a cherry on top, he gave them the technology to repair their rockets that used to blow up on the pads.
This is just one more thing.
Interestingly, the Chinese Communists regard Clinton as the "new Bismarck" - they believe even though Clinton spoke nicely, he was covertly continuing Ronald Reagan's policies of "expansionism" and planning to be an enemy of the PRC.
I live just south of SF, so I guess I should be worried, but then given that the NKorks can't even build a hotel with straight elevator shafts I prefer worrying about earthquakes.
??
From what I've seen, at best it could reach parts of Alaska or a few of Hawaii's outer Islands -- never make it to SFO.
The premise of the article is wrong. Anyone who grew up on this country who is over the age of about 25 spent their childhoods being told we could be nuked at any time by the Soviets. I'm an X'er and grew up with a steady barrage of movies and books reminding me of such.
After the Soviets were gone, we were reminded that there were still enough nukes out there to blow up the earth 5 times over (or whatever ridiculous number it was) and that there was no guarantee Russia wouldn't do something stupid with their nukes they no longer needed to raise a little cash (which in time they've PROVED they're not above selling their stuff off to maniacs with some cash).
When (since World War II) have we NOT been under constant threat of potential attack? We just learned a long time ago that the best you can do is keep some extra water and food around the house and try and elect governments we think will protect us without imposing on our daily lives unecessarily.
