email from Queen Hillary on the Iraq war (Barf alert...)

Posted on 06/22/2006 1:37:25 PM PDT by Gopher Broke

Dear Friend,

Yesterday I took to the Senate floor to talk about why it is time for a change in Iraq and to call on Republicans to stop playing partisan politics with the war while our troops are in harm's way. I spoke out in favor of the Levin amendment, which calls for a transition in strategy that will bring stability to the country and allow the troops to begin coming home.

I wanted to share with you some excerpts from my remarks. I encourage you to read the full text on my website at http://www.hillaryclinton.com/speech/view/?

I think it is time to choose whether or not we believe we have the right road map for success in Iraq. While our troops are serving bravely and with our national security in the balance, it is time to choose what is more important, a strategy to win in Iraq or a strategy for Republicans to win elections here at home....

I support this responsible way forward, a road map for success that will more quickly and effectively take advantage of Iraqi oil revenues, build up Iraqi infrastructure, foster Iraqi civil society, challenge Iraq's neighbors to do more to ensure stability in Iraq and allow our troops to begin coming home....

Let's be clear about what this debate is about. My friends on the other side of the aisle believe that the status quo is working in Iraq. They do not believe we need a fundamental change in policy. They choose to continue blindly following the president. We Democrats disagree. We believe we need a new direction in Iraq that will increase the chances for success on the ground....

They may not have a war strategy, but they do have an election strategy. This is the road they took America down in 2002. It was a dead end for our country then, and it's a dead end now....

This is not a time for partisanship. It is past time for this administration to level with the American people, for this Congress to find its voice and fulfill its constitutional duties to check and balance the Executive Branch, and for the Iraqis to chart a clear and responsible path to stability and peace....

The conflict in Iraq has now gone on longer than U.S. fighting in the Korean War before the armistice. We ought not to attack one another for asking the tough questions and presenting alternatives about how to achieve success, limit the loss and sacrifice of our young men and women.

I believe we must end our current open-ended, unconditional policy in Iraq. These decisions require serious debate, one without partisan political attacks.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

Which is relevant....how, exactly?

"...to call on Republicans to stop playing partisan politics with the war while our troops are in harm's way."

It is the job of our troops to be in harm's way so the civilians in this country aren't.

I want them safe from harm too. Aiding the enemy by encouraging them to kidnap, torture, and murder our soldiers and civilians does not make our troops or nation safer.

Neither does paying kidnappers millions in ransom (which is what Europe has been doing).

Lloyd Bentsen was recently honored at the time of his death. It was a star studded funeral.

Rep. Bentsen was among those who called for the citizens to tell Congress they supported the use of the nuclear bomb in Korea (rent The Atomic Cafe to see the clip).

Different war. Different methods. And North Korea is still a Communist nation with a dictator in power, threatening the South and other Pacific nations.

Does it hurt, Hillary, trying to keep one foot in each camp as they move farther apart? Do you feel that pain in your tendons? It's going to get worse, honey, and you may end up crippled. Do feel free to proceed.

An old socialist trick -- accuse your opponents of the sins you are committing.

An email? She just refuses to face the peasants. No interviews, no questions from reporters, she must be counting on massive voter fraud if she is running for President..

Any withdrawal that is NOT based on conditions on the ground IS a cut-and-run.

This is not a time for partisanship.

So a Republican majority Legislative (House and Senate) and Executive Branch owe nothing to the voters who put them in office. Why is it partisanship for the Republicans to hold their ground?

The parties are split on the war. They can be united by signing onboard to win this thing. Instead of giving the terrorists hope for a retreat (I swear they have a lot in common with the DUmmies who were counting on Kerry to call for a recount in 2004).

It is past time for this administration to level with the American people, for this Congress to find its voice and fulfill its constitutional duties to check and balance the Executive Branch,

I thought it was obstructionism to check the Executive Branch like happened in 1995 and Hillary's effort to nationalize health care.

She'll need to explicitly frame what she's alleging when she says "level with the American people". Come on, Hillary. Go on the record with what you are saying. This isn't just for posterity. This is for history. Future generations will read your words and we want to be able to nail down exactly what your position was. If you are alleging that the administration lied and is lying, then lying about "what"?

and for the Iraqis to chart a clear and responsible path to stability and peace....

They lived under the thumb of a tyrant who raped and disemboweled those who opposed his rule. If they find unsure footing in standing up for democracy, it is to be expected when jihadists are killing Iraqi men, women, and children in the streets and at mosques.

The KKK held about 100 years of power and influence. Do we want these "insurgents" to cause havoc and mayhem for that long? NO. The War in Iraq is over but the War On Terrorism continues.
