Catholic Priest faces federal charges

May 18, 2006 A Catholic priest now faces federal charges over an April 24 incident at a Bellevue abortion clinic.(owned by partial birth abortion abortionist, Le Roy Carhart) Fr. Norman Weslin, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court on a charge of obstructing free access to the abortion clinic.

Police officers called to the Abortion and Contraception Clinic of Nebraska found Weslin kneeling on the floor in a hallway, holding a rosary and praying, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

He also at some point allegedly blocked a doorway, police said.

The maximum possible penalty on this type of criminal activity is 18 months in prison to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release, a $25,000 fine and a $100 special assessment.

Fr. Weslin, who has a record of pro-life activity in other states, is also charged in Sarpy County in connection with the incident at the late-term abortion mill, located at 1002 W. Mission Ave.

He faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing, obstructing a police officer and disturbing the peace.

Fr. Weslin is founder of an pro-life group called the Lambs of Christ. He is a member of the Society of the Oblates of Wisdom, a clerical association of the faithful in La Crosse, Wis. Weslin is also a retired Lt. Colonel in the United States Army, and has founded a home for unwed mothers in Colorado.

Priest arrested after entering abortion clinic

May 12, 2006A Catholic priest was charged this week after he entered a Bellevue abortion clinic, knelt down and prayed with a rosary. Police identified the priest as the Rev. Norman Weslin, 75, who has a record of pro-life activity in other states.

The Sarpy County attorney charged Weslin Monday with trespassing, obstructing a police officer and disturbing the peace.

The incident took place last month at the Abortion and Contraception Clinic of Nebraska, a clinic that specializes in partial-birth abortions.

All three charges are misdemeanors. He also could face federal charges.

Weslin is founder of a pro-life group called the Lambs of Christ, and a retired Army Lt Colonel as well. He has spent time in federal prison in connection with abortion protests in New York. He was Also a participant in protests in Wichita, Kan., in the early 1990s.

Weslin is not assigned to the Archdiocese of Omaha, a spokesman for the archdiocese said. Records show he is a member of the Society of the Oblates of Wisdom, a clerical association of the faithful in La Crosse, Wis.

Police were called to the Bellevue clinic at 7:54 a.m. April 24 and found a man kneeling on the floor in a hallway, holding a rosary and praying, said Bellevue Police Lt. Dave Stukenholtz. The man was wearing a priest's collar.

He also at some point allegedly blocked a doorway, though when police arrived he was kneeling, Stukenholtz said.

He refused to leave and would not answer officers' questions, Stukenholtz said. "They had to pick him up by his arms and carry him from the clinic and put him into a patrol car," Stukenholtz said.

The man would not identify himself and was booked into the Sarpy County Jail as Baby John Doe, Stukenholtz said.

Weslin has a court appearance May 24.

John J. Molloy, a lawyer who once defended Weslin against federal charges related to his entering a prohibited zone around a New York clinic, described him as "marvelous" and "engaging." He said Weslin is firm in his beliefs but not violent.

Molloy said that other incidents for which Weslin has been charged also involved praying.

Abortion clinic spokesman Sanford Cohen, deputy director of the domestic legal program for the Center for Reproductive Rights in New York, said he was aware of the incident and of Weslin's prior activities, but he said he could not comment further.

NYer has the Catholic ping I think.

Heard about this going on back home. I love my state, but there are some judges and doctors that need much prayer.

The prayer I like for such judges and doctors is the one that Martin Luther taught Peter, the barber of Wittenberg:

Dear Lord God and Father, convert and control. Convert those who are still to become children and members of your kingdom, that together we may serve you in your kingdom in the right faith and true love and pass from this kingdom begun here to your everlasting kingdom. Control those who would not withdraw their might and means from disturbing your kingdom. May they be dethroned and in humiliation stop molesting your kingdom.

How the hell does this warrant federal charges? An abortion clinic, like all other health facilities or clinics, are regulated by local and/or state rules. Please don't tell me that abortion clinics are a 'federal protected class'!

If he were a PETA freak at a chicken farm, he'd be portrayed as a hero. But not when trying to stop infanticide.

In fairness, abortion care providers should be arrested if they enter Catholic churches and Catholic hospitals.

Carhart is the lowest of the low. Because of the decision of seven men in black robes back in 1973, he can now freely massacre babies in the antiseptic confines of his "clinic".

God bless Fr. Weslin for kneeling in that hallway and praying the rosary!

God have mercy on the souls of the fiends who kill His precious little children
in the name of "choice".

They are. There are numerous federal and state laws that apply only to abortion "clinics." Examples would be the Fed-approved buffer zone to keep people from getting too close, or the fact that abortion "clinics" do not have to comply with reporting laws in most states. That is, they don't have to report deaths, injuries, etc. of patients, unlike everybody else from the brian surgeon to the chiropodist.

One of the legacies of the Clinton years would be the signing of the Federal Access to Clinic Entrance act (FACE). The law makes trespassing on an abortion clinic and/or threatening an abortion doctor federal crimes.

There is no mistake. There are even federally enforced buffer zones around clinic driveway entrances so that pro-lifers cannot hand a leaflet to abortionists' customers.

Police officers called to the Abortion and Contraception Clinic of Nebraska found Weslin kneeling on the floor in a hallway, holding a rosary and praying, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

This is a truly unacceptable act, A Roman Catholic priest kneeling and praying on the floor near where innocent babies are killed.

Truly despicable. They should give Fr. Weslin the DEATH PENALTY.

A former military veteran such as Fr. Weslin certainly does deserve the death penalty, according to sources inside NOW, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and the National Abortion Federation.

Certainly THERE IS NO WORSE CRIME IN AMERICA today that what this priest conspired to do by kneeling and praying inside this NEBRASKA BABY SLAUGHTER FACTORY.

Certainly, all resources of the local and federal governments should be mobilized to oppose this very dangerous person.

Truly it is an outrage that a Roman Catholic Priest should practice what he considers his way of trying to end the senseless slaughter of UNBORN BABIES.

Clearly, there needs to be better mind programming by the TV networks and newspapers, and Hillary Clinton as well Diane Feinstein need to make this OFFENSE IMMEDIATELY PUNISHABLE BY DEATH - just as these babies are EXECUTED WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE.

IS THRE NO JUSTICE IN AMERICA? WHY IS THIS PRIEST ALLOWED TO LIVE.

(Exiting quote from DUmmies site about former US Veteran who is now a Catholic Priest - Father Norm Weslin - or is it Norman Schwartzkoff? I get them confused)

On a more serious note, Father Norm Weslin is a person right out of the book of Isaiah in the Bible.

Isaiah 53:3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (NIV)

I say this having met Father Weslin for a Mass in Atlanta, GA, where I viewed him that way (his cassock is tattered and patched and he does that intentionally so that he will be despised and rejected).

He is also a former Military Veteran...

Post #18 is on a more serious note... (And I find a lot of truth in Isaiah 53:3 and Fr. Norman Weslin - as well as in the life of Jesus Christ).

This verse of Isaiah (53:3) is often associated with the Passion of Christ is one that is good to reflect on.
