Iowa congressman apologizes for jest
Associated Press (excerpt) ^ | June 21, 2006

DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa congressman apologized Wednesday for disparaging comments he made last week at the state Republican convention about a veteran White House correspondent.

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, was discussing the June 7 death of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi on Saturday when he mentioned 85-year-old Helen Thomas, who has covered the White House for nearly 50 years and is a columnist for Hearst Newspapers.

"There probably are not 72 virgins in the hell he's at," King said about al-Zarqawi, in a recording transcribed by Radio Iowa. "And if there are, they probably all look like Helen Thomas."

"especially when you're from a cornfield."

Exactly what is that supposed to mean? And what is it that you have against King?

May I remind you that us folks here in the cornfields lend a very deep hue of red to that map of the United States. Iowa was a lot more red in 2004 than in 2000, partly because of Steve King. He grates on my nerves sometimes too, but at least he has cahoonas.

Heck, Helen's even an Arab so it's a sensitive comment.

Helen sits in the press conferences and conducts Journalistic Jihad everyday. No questions, just propoganda for the benefit of America's sworn enemies.

She should be more sensitive.

If you keep drinking enough, Helen is kinda cute. Well keep drinking then.

Aw, I dunno. I'm a little conflicted on this one. It's fine for us to suggest on a private forum that Helen's 12-bagger coyote ugly but it's a little raw for a public speech. A woman whose press conference questions consist exclusively of cheap shots at the President probably shouldn't complain when people take cheap shots at her (and, to her credit, she didn't, at least when Coulter did so) but that doesn't make them less cheap.

This one deserved an apology, IMHO. But damn, that woman's face could make the Mississippi river run screaming back to Montana.

I mean that in the kindest possible way.

"King's low class"
"especially when you're from a cornfield."

You are not showing much class yourself!

Helen's been a bitch in her own right. When asked about whether Cheney might run in '08, her reply was something like, "Oh I hope not. If he did I'd kill myself."

So I sent a mock up of a bumpersticker to James Taranto at WSJ's Opinion Journal. Top line in big font "Cheney '08". Next line in smaller font, "Thomas 1920-2006". Taranto put it in the column.

Helen also told a audience (at MIT I believe) that everyday she wakes up and asks herself, "Who do I hate today?"

Who needs a hater like Helen Thomas? Remember, liberals tell us we don't have to listen to haters, be tolerant of haters and it's OK to hate haters.

You know I'll never understand why Stephen Colbert had sex with Helen Thomas. I've seen the porno flick where she chases him till she gets what she wants from him.

The first known use of a pork chop necklace was on young Helen Thomas.

That's so they could get the dog to play with her?

Please, don't ever post a grid of Helen Thomas like that ever again.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but stinkspur is basically a contrarian. Unlike Annie, whose remarks are usually dead on, he seems to take some pride in garnering some fleeting attention by spouting off counterproductive points. Otherwise, he's harmless.

Right again. Of course we're talking internal ugliness here......right? She kicked the dogs around just for sport, so they had to sneak up from behind; grab the pork chop and run.

King is the GOP's Pete Stark.

He was the only member of Sensenbrenner's Committee to vote against renewal of the Voting Rights Act.

Why do you think he did that?

Why do you think he did that?

Why don't you tell us, sinkie.

Your inference is that he is a racist, right?

If I had a buck for every time you've made such inferences about conservatives, I could buy a top of the line new car.

No. But it is curious that he was the only Republican who opposed the Voting Rights' Act renewal.

What were his reasons, do you think?

Alright, you don't dig reference to Helen Thomas as
one of the 72 virgins. However you can't deny that
she wins poster girl for Halloween hands down.
