Israel allowed to join Red Cross

The Red Cross movement has approved a resolution allowing Israel and Palestinian societies to join.
The measure was passed in a late-night vote despite objections by Muslim countries to the Israeli Magen David Adom society becoming a member.
The society has been applying to join since the 1930s, but objects to the traditional cross and crescent symbols used by existing members.
Under a deal reached in December, it will use a diamond-shaped red crystal.

The Red Cross can kiss my *ss. They've profited from blood products for years and never dealt with the Jews as humans. Sorry...but that's just my take on those self-righteous phonies.
But, let me quickly add, I KNOW that there have been many really good people associated with the organization over the years. Just not at the top.

It's about time - they should be allowed to join with their Star of David - the Islamofascists are allowed to have their crescent - why are they the only minority that can snuff out others' free speech and symbology - and don't think for a minute that they wouldn't object to the Cross for us if they had the strength to get away with it. Just show me a standing cross in Saudi Arabia or any other country living under Islamic law.

Well actually, the American Red Cross (which runs the blood donation system and disaster relief) has very little to do with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies which the article refers (it is a member, but the federation has no say in American Red Cross policy). In fact, as a member of the Federation, the US was a leading voice for many years in support of admitting Isreal's society.
To make things even more complicated, neither the American Red Cross, nor the International Federation, has anything to do with the International Committee of the Red Cross which is essentially a private Swiss non-profit corporation that monitors international treaties such as the Geneva Convention. The ICRC wrote the initial reports critical of Guantanamo Bay but now has a permanent presence there.
So, if you are upset with the International Federation for its long standing anti-Semitism, fine; and if you are upset with the ICRC for its activities and statements about the War on Terror, also fine. But don't take it out on your local American Red Cross chapter which one day may supply the blood to keep you alive, the hotel room if your house burns down, or that needed cup of coffee when it is 10 degrees and you are stuck in a blizzard on the side of the highway.

Agree. To me it suggests they can only deal with Jews when they are boxed in. On the other hand, fences are not bad things because they do keep the riff raff off Israeli streets.
