Exactly the way they want you to respond. (If we ignore it, it's not a story.)

Actor Walter Brennan was mustard gassed in WWI, so he says, and gave him a unique vocal quality that made him rich and famous. He died in 1974 at the age of 80, almost 55 years after his encounter with the chemical. It still is a devious weapon that maimed and killed many troops during WWI.

Might be them... then again, might not. Who knows? You?

Another Freeper was asking me about some old information and I referred him to that post. Not vouching for it, or part of my argument.

I wouldn't report it either.

If they are from 1991, it is not a big deal.

It is in one sense...they did not destroy the weapons.

But, since it does not prove they had active/new weapons in the early 2000s, it does not really mean much in the long run.

Obviously, this whole WMD story cannot be verified without the MSM taking a poll.

Remember we also found Chinese silkworm missiles in Iraq that had hollow heads fitted for WMD's such as sarin or mustard gas. We just didn't find at the time the sarin or mustard gas.

From the article, quoting from one of the intelligence documents:

[Although degraded], "the chemicals 'remain hazardous and potentially lethal.'"

It's significant that it's Santorum because he's the most in-trouble R Senator and the WH must think this is big to make him the point man on it.

It means many weeks of being on talk shows and giving interviews. It means the WH at least thinks it's a big deal.

Even Rush should know it won't absolve Bush - even on Fox just now they said they were old pre-1991 weapons and the only thing that it proves is he lied about destroying them, not that he had an active program.

IRAQ & WMDS [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

This pdf of a letter from John Negroponte is what Rick Santorum is talking about.

WMDs in Iraq [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
The bullet points from today's declassification, via RJS's office:

* Since 2003 Coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent.

* Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq’s pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist.

* Pre-Gulf War Iraqi chemical weapons could be sold on the black market. Use of these weapons by terrorists or insurgent groups would have implications for Coalition forces in Iraq. The possibility of use outside Iraq cannot be ruled out.

* The most likely munitions remaining are sarin and mustard-filled projectiles.

* The purity of the agent inside the munitions depends on many factors, including the manufacturing process, potential additives, and environmental storage conditions. While agents degrade over time, chemical warfare agents remain hazardous and potentially lethal.

* It has been reported in open press that insurgents and Iraqi groups desire to acquire and use chemical weapons.
