Iraqi forces capture top rebel

A LEADING insurgent has been captured by Iraqi soldiers in Baghdad's mainly Shi'ite Kadhimiyah district in a raid during the security clampdown in the capital.

Nuri Abu Haider Al-Oqabi, an alleged "leader of an assassination cell in Baghdad", was captured today in the district's Shuala neighbourhood, the US military said.

Oqabi "recently became the head of a punishment committee that executes judgment on perceived enemies of his organisation", the military said.

The military said he was responsible for the kidnapping and murder of 14 Iraqi army soldiers last month, plus many other such abductions and murders.

Another person was also detained during the early morning raid.

Tens of thousands of Iraqi and US troops are patrolling the streets of Baghdad as part of the security plan ordered by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to restore stability in the violent Iraqi capital.

Despite the huge security crackdown, dozens of people have been killed in a series of insurgent attacks in Baghdad since the start of the operation on June 14.

The Iraqi authorities better not place panties on his head or allow dogs to bark near him! The poor headhacker might be "shamed" and feel "despair" (the new definition of torture to the America-haters).

I suspect the Iraqi military aren't nearly as PC as ours has to be.

Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy can reprise his thoughts on the horrors of waterboarding.

So basically, he's got the same job as Nancy Pelosi.

"I think a practice of decaping these guys as they're caught using one of zarqawi's old dull blades or maybe a course bladed wood saw would be very effective."

I feel the same way. But we are better than that. A military tribunal with a guilty verdict results in a hanging to offenders.

At one time, "pants wetters" and cowards would hide in fear and shame but today many are US Senators, sigh.

I have a feeling the terrorists think we're weak because we can kill them in battle and send them to meet their god, but we can't torture them when we catch them.

It irks me to no end that they can be so smug about being captured because they know they're safe if they can manage to surrender. One minute they put a bullet through an American, and the next they can drop their weapon and lie down on the ground and wait to be trussed up.

They think our inability to do to them what they do to us is a sign of our weakness. God knows that the few isolated and scattered incidents of U.S. soldiers losing control and forgetting their training are damaging to us in the big, global picture - but those are the only actions the enemy actually respects. They are insane, fanatical worshippers of a primitive death cult that borrowed aspects of Christianity and Judaism to give itself credibility. Islam is not a revelation of God's will or intent for mankind. It is a playbook for conquering a people and subjugating them under an oligarchy of wealthy, unaccountable clerics, imams, and sages.

But given all that, our being the good guys means we can't just commit genocide and wipe the entire worthless religion off the face of the planet. Besides, it would never work. Oppression gives Islam its strength. It validates its existence. It was designed for a few privileged men to lord it over their subjects and live like kings in their satrapies. The greatest danger to fundamentalist Islam isn't that we'll wipe out the Muslims through force of arms. It is that we'll defeat the oppressors and civilize their followers, and eventually give them a reason to choose Life over Death.

Aw, let 'em. They need to STFU anyway. They need to realize that this is a war, not a tea party. And if they're too spineless to see that, screw 'em.

If some of those human rights-kumbaya-twits should lose loved ones to terrorism, they'd change their tune in a heartbeat.
