THE ratings-starved Maury Povich and Connie Chung weekend show on MSNBC ended its short, six-month run with a bizarre send-off - sure to live on as a tone-deaf stunt Chung will not soon be allowed to forget.
Perched on the edge of a white grand piano and decked out in a full-length evening gown, the former CBS and CNN anchorwoman warbled a farewell song that put down Dan Rather (with whom she co-anchored the CBS news in the early 1990s), her husband and cable TV - all at the same time.
"Thanks for the memories," she sang to the tune of the old standard:
We came to do a show for very little dough
By little, I mean I could make more working on skid row

Yes, but for that 2:48 minutes you were glued to the video in wonderment -- wondering how much worse can it get.

Perched on the edge of a white grand piano That white grand piano looks awfully black to me. Now she's in a white DRESS (and the pianist in a white suit).
Is there some way to play the audio only? I am on a dogslow Windows 98 machine that stutters because it can't keep up with the display.

The Imus show made reference to the Mad TV parodies as well.
Actually, I'm watching the Connie tape as I type. Like her or not, she's one smart cookie..and went out with her own parody. She finally brought attention to the show, LOL.

I wonder if the term "jumped the shark" has just been replaced with something like "climbed the piano", "don the dress", or "swan song"(hmmmm, that's been coined already).I think they're two entirely different concepts.
Jump the shark = the point at which you've run out of creative ideas.
Climb the piano = reaching the bottom of the cliff in a (potentially spectacular) moment of career (or TV series, e.g.) self-destruction.
Or, to put it another way, jumping the shark is the beginning of the end. Climbing the piano seals the deal.
Teddy, for example, climbed the piano at Chappaquiddick.

Gee--thanks for finding that for us--I'm sure I could have never found it on my own--LOL!
The Chung thing was just too painful to watch for very long.

Well, it's still morning so I trust you are sober. Connie must have filmed her song in the evening.

Odd.
Wailing in a fancy gown while perched on top of a piano.
(IF) I had any doubts about whether the MSM thought themselves as "news anchors" or serious reporters (instead of pretty faces reading just re-reading the dnc-faux-fax releases for their socialist causes), this would have aborted it.
The MSM performers ARE merely actors reading scripts, dreaming of becoming "real" stars.
If Connie really was a serious reporter - rather than a has-been performer dreaming of the limelight, she would of given us an outgoing opas to be proud of.

The sheriff knew a nasty bit when he saw it. He was accustomed to enter upon scenes that were not as bad as he had hoped to find them, but this one met his expectations. Flannery OConnor, The Comforts of Home.
