Kos Blogger: "I Served During the First Gulf War"
TheMediaReport.com ^ | 18 June 2006 | Dave Pierre

Liberal blogger Markos Moulitsas ("Daily Kos") appeared on CNN's Reliable Sources this morning (Sunday, June 18, 2006). Host Howard Kurtz asked Kos about a comment he made on his blog a couple of years back. In April 2004, in a thread about the coverage of the brutal murders of four Americans in Fallujah, Kos posted a comment in which he wrote (bold mine), "I feel nothing over the death of merceneries. They aren't in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them."

In part, here's how Kos responded to Kurtz. Video is at Expose the Left.

KOS: ... [I]n a way it’s funny that they have not updated their talking points in two years. And so they want to keep resurrecting an old quote. There’s nothing I can do about it. What I can do is I can say the fact is the reason, the context for that quote, was solidarity with my brothers and sisters in arms, Marines and soldiers. I wore combat boots. I served during the first Gulf war. And people are making a choice between private armies and mercenaries. I make my choice. I stand behind our men and women in uniform, and I’m not going to apologize for that. But they’re going to keep resurrecting that, and that’s fine. That’s what they do ...

Kos' remarks that "I wore combat boots" and "I served during the first Gulf war" may have led some viewers to believe that he was sent to the Middle East during the conflict. He was not. His period of service occurred during the same time as the first Gulf war, but Kos himself stated in an article earlier this year that he "missed deploying to the Gulf War by a hair." Moulitsas proudly served in the Army from 1989 to 1992, and his service and sacrifice should be commended.

Hopefully this post will be helpful to those CNN viewers who may have misinterpreted Kos' words.

"Looks like we have a new potential colloquialism. Whenever you see someone do or say something stupid, an appropriate reply would be:

"What a Kos Blogger...."

Better yet, how about "KOSSED?"

As is he/she/we/they, etc., were "KOSSED."

Meaning, someone was intentionally deceived, lied to, impugned, denigrated, etc.

Hey, we have the left's adaptation of "Swift Boating," thus why not have something for us on the Right?

It was Cambodia AND Laos! Yeah, that's it.

Maybe it was communist China...after all, geography and the true course of a river shouldn't stand in the way of his fabricated war stories.

He may have been in Cambodia. But not the Cambodia we know; the Cambodia he went to was in an alternate universe, where Richard Nixon was already President in the winter of 1968.

I kid, I kid. Richard Nixon was so awesome that he didn't have to wait until January of 1969 to be sworn in. He was sworn in as President right after all the votes were counted. That's how he ended up being Kerry's Commander in Chief in the winter of 1968.

Actually, Nixon got sworn in EVEN LONGER before that. Remember the Johnson administration? That was Nixon in disguise! Little makeup, change the accent a bit, give Nixon some posture help, and bam! Instant LBJ. That's how Vietnam ended up being "Nixon's war." Because he was in office when we first got in. That's right; JFK didn't put us in, nor did LBJ. RMN did.

In Kerry's Bizarro World, that is.

They'll either ignore it (standard tactic 1) or obfuscate it (standard 2) and say he was actually in active service and could have been deployed. That won't really fly, either. Bush volunteered to go with the F-102 group being sent to S.E. Asia. He did not have enough flight hours accumulated and was not eligible.

Couple of my buds volunteered to go, only to end-up staying at some sort of villa in Riyadh. Oh the horrors!

I didn't volunteer, per se. My reserve status was upgraded to "Active". I left active duty about a year earlier. Spent my time running air conditioners, purifying water, ducking Scuds, and cleaning sand out of my bodily orifi. And in my spare time........
