AP Wrings Its Hands Over Deportation of Illegals

Cue the violins. AP has produced a two-hanky tear-jerker on illegals afraid of being deported. The headline sets the tone: 'Immigration sweep brings fear to community'.

Other mournful morsels from the article by AP writer Elliot Spagat:

"Fewer parents are walking their children to school in this border city's Linda Vista neighborhood."

"A sense of unease has spread in this community of weather-worn homes." [Nice touch with 'weather-worn'!]

"People rarely leave their houses now to go shopping," Osorio, 37, said as she clutched a bottle of laundry detergent in a barren courtyard. 'They walk in fear.'" [Extra credit, Elliot, for the clutched detergent bottle.]

"Her husband, Juan Rivera, 29, has stopped taking their two children to the park on weekends. 'We want to go out but we can't.'"

"In a blitz that began May 26 . . . It was the latest salvo . . . " [Nice war imagery!]

"All this has immigrants on edge." [Sure hope so if they're illegals.]

"Day laborer Fredy Calleja said his uncle was arrested about two weeks ago while watering plants outside his home." [Darn that Bush, now he's gone and made watering plants a crime!]

"Serafina Morales has been looking for unmarked white or black vehicles whenever she leaves the house. 'We're all scared to go to school.'"

The sweeps are part of a nationwide effort to round up an estimated 590,000 immigrant fugitives. We should be applauding it. But the AP would cast our government as the bully and curry sypmathy for those who have entered our country illegally.

My own motivation and why I enjoy them? They were the backbone of the housing boom...both as carpenters and landscapers, but they were also 1st time buyers which drove the move-up market.

But do you realize that the majority of HUD and subsidized housing is being used by illegal aliens when the programs are for US citizens? Sure, it's the rental agents 'fault' but all INS needs to do is sweep through a Housing Project and they can fill a couple of jumbo jets with illegal aliens.

I work with them all the time in my job. Most are nice people who do not want to understand that they've broken the law when the crossed the border.

The USA is not the penny bank of Mexico.

I am all for putting a 'human face' on things,
but let's look at it in another light.
This was a part of a sweep to arrest and deport illegal aliens who have outstanding arrests ...
"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have arrested 2,179 illegal aliens, including gang members and sexual predators, as part of a three-week nationwide interior immigration enforcement operation. "
http://washingtontimes.com/national/20060614-115006-1275r.htm

Now let's put a human face on another usually-victimless crime:

"I know many drunk drivers and they are terrific hard-working trustworthy people. I'm proud they consider me a friend.
It would hurt a lot of people financially and emotionally if any of them were rounded up and jailed.
And that's why federal politicians suddenly become right-wing challenged...at least in the eyes of too many freepers. In my opinion."

Aw geez GLGB...now ya done it. The liberal MSM and everybody's favorite pinata - immigration. I hate AP as much as anybody here but I'm glad somebody is putting a human face on it. I know many illegal immigrants and they are terrific hard-working trustworthy people. I'm proud they consider me a friend. It would hurt a lot of people financially and emotionally if any of them were rounded up and deported. And that's why federal politicians suddenly become right-wing challenged...at least in the eyes of too many freepers. In my opinion.

Anyone, including you, who thinks illegal aliens help this country need their heads examined. So you know a few nice ones, so what? They are still here breaking the law, driving wages down, committing crimes that wouldn't be committed if we controlled the borders and bringing in diseases we haven't see in decades in this country. Not only did they commit a misdemeanor by coming here illegally, they committed a felony by obtaining fake IDs in order to get work.

They need to be arrested, tried, sentenced and they sent back home, where ever that may be. They don't want to be scared? Have them try obeying the law and returning home on their own and then applying to come here legally.

Nothing like breaking a few laws to make you scared of the authorities, right? Go pedal your BS to people who believe it, say the ones working for AP!

I agree, I also know many hard working people with a family- great people- except they are dumb enough to drive when drinking. Do I want them let go because they are good people otherwise; my answer is NO, because I and or my family and friends or anyone else does not need to meet them on the highway.

Committing crimes is not something only slimeballs do, sometimes otherwise decent people do drugs, get DWIs, commit assults- you name it. I get tired of hearing about the hard working illegals, and how we should ignore the fact that they are here illegally. The other issue is many of the hard working illegals commit other crimes like identity theft and using false documents. For some reason many think we should just ignore it all, but only for a certain group of people.

Double Standard?

Yeah. See tagline. Then, point out to me one step of the marxist doctrine that hasn't already been fulfilled or is near fruition in this Republic. I dare anyone to prove me wrong. We are on a collision course with the destruction of borders worldwide.

Now...I want you to "vote the bums out!".........yeah.....right.

Keep your powder dry friend. No one else will.

Just my humble opinion, of course.

Random thoughts: there's an article in a (presumably) conservative magazine this past week, the Weekly Standard, in which a shill for the La Raza passes off his opinons as fact that Americans support a "road to citizenship" for illegal aliens.
On November 8th of this year, control of the Congress will pass to the Democrats, but we here will remain conservatives.
I've failed to renew my subscription to the above magazine because it has become a quasi-official news organ for Republi-moonbots, as the NYT is for Demo-bats.

I just get sick of the sterotypical and, IMO racist by some, generalities, of an entire ethnic group.

What race? Illegals are of every race creed and color, they are all illegal and should be rounded up and deported.

What is racism is for some to act like it is ok for a group of people to be above the law, because they are citizens of Mexico- I say that because it seems most of the supporters of illegals are only in support of Mexican illegals and could care less about all the other illegals. Citizens from any other country are not above the law, and in fact should not be here.

People who cannot bother to enter the country legally are unlikely to be of the best character after they arrive. Once the illegals feel comfortable here, no longer fearing momentary deportation, they revert to their true character, or lack of it.

Thanks for the realtime report. It's indicative of the mindset illegal invaders have---a contempt for law---and a fixation that the US government, the Treasury, and US taxpayers exist for their convenience.

To these predators, US laws are meaningless. The law of the jungle rules them.

Americans are incensed that we are asked to subsidize those preying on us---AND ALSO are required to look away and be nice to them--- pretending they are not stealing us blind.

Judging from the media onslaught, it appears the invaders have had another meeting (/sarc) (here's hoping they have a couple more "protests" that awoke the Nation to their reconquista game).

Now the latest agit prop from the invaders is "you better be nice to us --- sure, there's a few illegal crooks among us---but the rest of us are legit."

The contempt these predators have for Americans is just unbelievable--thinking we will sit still for the takeover of our government by third world predators, who shouted their intent in street protests, to use violence if necessary, to get ahold of our resources.

It is the mindset of the MSM.

Yesterday I was listening to stories of Katrina survivors who were refused help by MSM reporters because "it would violate the integrity of their story".

The AP and their ilk seek to DIRECT the news not to report the news.

Well a lot of US Senators and the President disagree with you.

We're obviously bigger-picture people.

You have no idea how they have made our economic boom possible, and how they've encouraged an entrepreneurial atmosphere in many regions.

If our grandparents and great grandparents could have gotten in as easy as it is today, they'd have come that way too. Don't act so high and mighty.

Try to stay focused now. This thread is about illegal immigrants.

No, actually this thread is about how the biased leftist feel good make eveybody a victim MSM (Associated Press) is painting a jack-booted image of the administration and how the enforcement is heavy handed.

I would like you "bigger picture" people to come to the border area and stay a while and find out what the real "big picture" is. I think illegals may boost the economy in some areas with their cheap labor. They are also a drain on the economy in other areas, like medical, education, social services, and the criminal justice system. I also firmly believe they are changing our culture for the worse.

They are now competing against citizens for middle class jobs; which causes wages to remain low and workplace conditions to deteriorate. The end result of that will be no middle class, which is one of the biggest problems Mexico has. If a country only has rich and poor; and no real way for someone to climb the socioeconimic ladder by starting at the bottom and working their way up- then that country is on the downhill slide. That is not a very good picture, no matter how "big" it is.

If illegals are such a boon to our economy then why didn't some of the great minds in D.C., who are so good at seeing the "big picture" forsee the problems and find a way to allow more legal workers from other countries before the problems associated with illegals got out of control? Or are you saying because they are illegal and will work for low wages and poor work conditions is why they are a boon to the economy? If that is the case then why not just go to any 3rd world county and capture the natives for slaves, that should be a real boon to our economy.

How can you justify an illegal activity by saying it is good for the economy? If I were allowed to rob banks with impunity, I promise to buy a nice home, new cars, and generally stimulate the economy with my ill gotten gains. Does that make it all right with you?

"Well a lot of US Senators and the President disagree with you."

Well, that's not the first time a lot of US Senators and one President have been wrong!

Certainly, the Senate CIRA bill, immigration w/ amnesty bill cowritten by McCain and Kennedy, is the worst bill in 20 years. The. Worst. Bill. Ever.
http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2006/05/worst-bill-ever.html

There are so many ways that this Senate bill is awful beyond belief - bad on employer verification:
http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2006/05/sham-nesty-bill-now-stymies-employer.html
Bad on immigration levels - qunituples them:
http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2006/05/senate-bill-quintuples-immigration.html
has a Social Security giveaway:
http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2006/05/senate-social-security-giveaway-for.html
How it guts real temporary worker program and is falsely advertised on what it contains:
http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2006/05/real-temporary-guest-worker-program.html

"We're obviously bigger-picture people."

Wrong. Their picture is one that ignores American workers, ignores the taxpayers, ignores the rule of law, ignores our borders and sovereignty, and ignores what is best for America overall. The big picture solution would be willing to actually *enforce the law* for once.

'bigger picture' ... or just clueless as to what their bill does:
http://www.steinreport.com/archives/2006_03.html

"You have no idea how they have made our economic boom possible" No. I have no idea, because in fact illegal immigrants *havent* made our boom possible and it is an insult to Americans to suggest as much. I am too busy living and working with *legal* immigrants to notice the minor contributions of illegal immigrants, but I don know the statistics, and while *legal* immigrants are net contributors to the economy, illegal immigrants, being lower educated overall, are more marginal. Moreover, they are adding to poverty numbers, to other social statistics that drag our education averages down and various social problems up. Add in costs to taxpayers, and its a net drain. Legalizing them would cost tens of billions of dollars per year, is that what you want?

There is a better way:
- secure the border
- create employer verification
- end catch-and-release and have catch-and-deport
- get state and local law enforcement to help
- add legal channels to immigration for temporary workers (*without amensty*)

It's a simple solution. NOT EASY, but simple.

No, it won't, unless the GOP panics.
And the GOP is not panicking.

"I've failed to renew my subscription to the above magazine because it has become a quasi-official news organ for Republi-moonbots,"

The Weakly Standard drank the koolaid on the 'comprehnsive solution' that is anything but.

Utter rubbish and a rather egotistical comment.

Politicians are far from bigger-picture people, as they seek to pander and grovel in their next election cycle, to hell with the long-term consequences of their short-term folly.

It is the secured borders advocates who see the long-term effects of an uncontrolled illegal invasion of this country...

You have no idea of the economic burden illegals place on this country, from an artifically high clogging of our transportation and government services (education and health care entitlements), to increased ghetto-ization and high crime, social security and credit card frauds, and voter fraud... what has made California virtually unwinnable is because of our lax immigration policies and unwillingness to deal with the problem. And this head-in-the-sand mentality will and has come to many other "red" states and will eventually permanently put the Democrats and their big-government policies in office if we don't act now. That's "bigger-picture" for you.

Fighting illegal immigration is a winning issue whether you want to admit it or not. Even in California.

I could have posted this as a vanity, but I thought I would pass on an observation from a few minutes ago.

I just returned from the grocery store, where I bought some charcoal for barbecue.

I was both annoyed and amused to notice that:

1. All the U.S. made charcoal now has bilingual labels, even when the "Spanish" is in smaller type.

2. The Mexican made charcoal's (several varieties) have labels in ENGLISH ONLY!

BTW, 1/2 the shelf was Mexican made product, I'm guessing a higher profit margin?

"another dredge that America could never produce..."

OF COURSE America can produce scum and creeps, as well as people only accused of being scum and creeps who spend years in jail anyway(!)

The difference is that when it is a home grown bad guy there is about ten times more chance that he or she will come to justice....and not enough of the home grown creeps come to justice in any event.
(When you skip from Los Angeles to Searchlight, "they" can still get to you, Tijuana is a whole 'nother story - and it's closer)
