Cue the violins. AP has produced a two-hanky tear-jerker on illegals afraid of being deported. The headline sets the tone: 'Immigration sweep brings fear to community'.
Other mournful morsels from the article by AP writer Elliot Spagat:
"Fewer parents are walking their children to school in this border city's Linda Vista neighborhood."
"A sense of unease has spread in this community of weather-worn homes." [Nice touch with 'weather-worn'!]
"People rarely leave their houses now to go shopping," Osorio, 37, said as she clutched a bottle of laundry detergent in a barren courtyard. 'They walk in fear.'" [Extra credit, Elliot, for the clutched detergent bottle.]
"Her husband, Juan Rivera, 29, has stopped taking their two children to the park on weekends. 'We want to go out but we can't.'"
"In a blitz that began May 26 . . . It was the latest salvo . . . " [Nice war imagery!]
"All this has immigrants on edge." [Sure hope so if they're illegals.]
"Day laborer Fredy Calleja said his uncle was arrested about two weeks ago while watering plants outside his home." [Darn that Bush, now he's gone and made watering plants a crime!]
"Serafina Morales has been looking for unmarked white or black vehicles whenever she leaves the house. 'We're all scared to go to school.'"
The sweeps are part of a nationwide effort to round up an estimated 590,000 immigrant fugitives. We should be applauding it. But the AP would cast our government as the bully and curry sypmathy for those who have entered our country illegally.
What's the big deal? All they have to do is prove that they are in this country legally and no problem. After all, the article does refer to them as immigrants.
You mean these charged dredges from Mexico, who are charged with murdering 7 people in a hispanic family?
Oops sorry those are American born dredges, they don't count in your eyes MCG999, in your opinion.
I have held jobs where I worked alongside illegals.
There were very hard working, until the company got them work permits.
Then they became some of the worst moochers and thieves possible.
I came to the conclusion that the result should have been expected.
People who cannot bother to enter the country legally are unlikely to be of the best character after they arrive.
Once the illegals feel comfortable here, no longer fearing momentary deportation, they revert to their true character, or lack of it.
NO AMNESTY!
My problem is that my own county and state governments have told the police not to question people, not to ask status, ask for papers etc..
The school system knows damned well which students are not here legally..or at least knows how to verify any suspicion. The orders come from the top.
I live in a blue county and state but my governor is republican. IOW, failure to enforce has be the modus operandi of both sides of the aisle...all the way up to the House and Senate. All the way up the White House.
They should all be thrown out of office for allowing it to get to this stage. It should have been addressed years ago, but it's the hot potato of politics.
They are not dumb, evil-minded people we elected. You think they thumb their noses at you because they don't enforce the immigration laws.
I can understand the Feds...the taxes withheld from phony or stolen ss#s translated to a lot of dollars to the treasury.
My own motivation and why I enjoy them? They were the backbone of the housing boom...both as carpenters and landscapers, but they were also 1st time buyers which drove the move-up market.
I'm sorry for rambling. I don't express myself very well too much of the time.
But I think you're all taking stupid pills. No disrespect.
I could have said ignorant pills. ;^)

Go back to your oen country, and you can go to the park all you want there. Do they have parks there, BTW?
When I was a prosecutor I knew alot of hard-working people who did ILLEGAL drugs. I am sure that it hurt them financially and emotionally when the police arrested them, and I prosecuted them. So, I guess you would have had me let them go? I guess it was the police officer's fault for doing their job and arresting these people? Never mind the fact that they violated the law. What part of ILLEGAL is everyone not understanding?

Thank you, thank you. Just when I was trying to formulate an answer to DCPatriot's whiny post, I read your perfect response.
You mean these charged dredges from Mexico, who are charged with murdering 7 people in a hispanic family?

Try to stay focused now. This thread is about illegal immigrants. I don't think that anyone here said that we don't have our own native-born criminals. Why would anyone want to add Mexico's criminals to the ones we already have?
People who cannot bother to enter the country legally are unlikely to be of the best character after they arrive.

Bingo!
oen country = own country

You know what Dane, nobody cares what you think or write. You think illegals are all sweetness and light. I don't know why, but it's probablyh because you're exploiting them and making a living off the illegals in some way. You really don't care much what happens to anybody else as long as your little buddies keep providing for you.
hahaha...you're wasting your time with Dane and I have wasted enough of my time responding to him/her for today.

My life is ruined, oh the agony(/sarc).
You think illegals are all sweetness and light.
No I don't and I don't think each and every one of them is the anti-christ as you seem to.

Wrong, I'm not an employer, I just get sick of the sterotypical and, IMO racist by some, generalities, of an entire ethnic group.

I understand your point and it is well taken. I do not judge any one group by ethnicity. I don't judge any "group" at all. Racism has no part in my thinking, unless there is a "race" of lawbreakers. Haven't heard about that race yet...I always called them criminals...how about you?
