I'm actually reading her book now.

Ann is tearing them up (again) on the abortion stuff at the point where I am in the book...and the MSM is somehow focused on what she had to say about some floosies capitalizing on their sacred 9-11 2001 widowhood status.

That is nuts.

The book ain't about that. Not so far anyhow.

I love to be reminded that there are still folks in CA that have some common sense!
Thanks!
California WILL RISE AGAIN -- from the Darkness of Liberalism!
And, Ann's apppeal is also MUCH BROADER than many in the media seem to think!

From a previous Ann Coulter thread:

...Let me tell you a story.

I am a German living in Berlin, and I don't remember how I discovered Ann Coulter, but I remember that the first book of hers I bought was Slander (imported from Amazon USA). When I got it, I couldn't put it down and took it everywhere I went. So, one day I felt like having a big cheeseburger and went to the Hardrock Café (There's not much of a choice over here, short of McDonalds and Burger King).

So, I sat there alone, eating my cheeseburger, drinking Kilkenny, and Ann's Slander was lying on the table. The waitress was a young American girl, and she immediately recognized Ann's face on the cover! At first, I thought I had made a mistake and that she was going to scold and deride me for reading such evil rightwing propaganda, but far from it:
She curiously picked up the book and asked me what it was about: "Is it about her life? Or what?"
We talked a bit, and she told me that she knew her from TV.

It was quite apparent that she didn't even know what a liberal or a conservative is, but somehow, she admired Ann anyway:
That cool woman, so pretty, so smart, making such a ruckus on TV, kicking everybody's ass!

Later I lent the book to several English speaking Germans (and one Brit), only one of them being a die-hard conservative (the Brit). Most of them don't know the first thing about American politics, but Ann's style got through to them, anyway: They all loved the book. Clearly, this woman had something important to say, and they all wanted to learn more about it :-)

So, yes: Her polemic does get through, and she actually doesn't repel every "soccer mom."

Some history:

"TV Guide, August 1997: 'Opinionated? Yes. Loud? Definitely. And it's made her one of the most popular pundits . . . Today, she has journeyed from Washington, D.C., where she is a lawyer for the Center for Individual Rights, which she calls a right-wing American Civil Liberties Union, to ... Seacaucus, New Jersey. Coulter, 35, grew up in Connecticut, sparring with her lawyer-father, John, activist-mother, Nell, and two brothers, John and Jim, at the dinner table. "I am used to having to fight to get my say in," says Coulter. "Which is probably why I seem a little more aggressive than the average female." At Cornell University, Coulter was a founding editor of the Cornell Review, the school's conservative newspaper. At the University of Michigan Law School, she started the campus's first chapter of the Federalist Society, a conservative legal group.'

She joined CIR in 1997. As of early 1998, she was a CIR Associate Counsel. She received her B.A. degree from Cornell University in 1985 and her J.D. degree from University of Michigan Law School in 1988. In 1989-1990, she clerked for Judge Pasco Bowman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, ...

Prior to working for CIR, Ms. Coulter was employed as a litigation associate for the firms of Cahill, Gordon & Reindel and Kronish, Lieb, Weiner & Hellman, and as a Judiciary Counsel to Republican Senator Spencer Abraham.

In August 1997 at CIR, Ms. Coulter initiated a legal action representing Mr. Jessie Tompkins, a graduate student at Alabama State University (ASU) in his lawsuit challenging all-white scholarships at ASU.

On October 31, 1998, Ann Coulter identified herself publicly as a "Freeper" in her brief remarks to a DC rally of "my fellow Freepers." ...Linda Tripp is the Freeper's "heroine." Coulter "checks in to the Free Republic website every day," she said. ..." ~ Edited by Jane Wardlow Prettyman - American Review (formerly of Esquire Magazine)

March For Justice Rally D.C. 30 October, 1998 Demonstrations to Dot Capital Saturday By Judy Cooley CNS Senior Staff Writer

(CNS) – The nation's capital will be teeming with supporters and opponents of President Bill Clinton Saturday, as thousands of people are expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. for a number of pre-election rallies, demonstrations and protests.

The largest rally is expected to be the "March for Justice," which is sponsored and organized by the Internet website Free Republic. The rally is scheduled to begin at 12:00 EST and run all afternoon near the Washington Monument.

The purpose of the march, according to Free Republic founder Jim Robinson, is to "bring attention to the corruption in the Clinton administration and call for the president's resignation."

"The rally will be altogether legal and orderly, a remonstration more than a demonstration," said Robinson. "It will aim at presenting the evidence of the president's lawlessness and convincing the Congress and our fellow Americans of the gravity of the president's misconduct."

Officials connected with the march said about 2,500 people have officially registered on the Free Republic website confirming they are attending the rally, and organizers expect many more to show up who have not officially registered. The march will be preceded by a morning demonstration in Lafayette Park across the street from the White House, protesting Clinton's actions as president. .." [snip] More here

Thanks for posting that C-Span screen-capture. I was there that glorious day / weekend, myself. Family members who couldn't make it, made sure they videotaped the complete C-Span coverage of the event, which lasted all afternoon. Brought home some fantastic pictures, too. :)

I just spent a most enjoyable half-hour reading every word of this thread. What a good time I had, YES!

I have a photo right by my computer of myself and Ann taken at the March for Justice. Matt Drudge is on the other side of me, but Ann is prettier.

Congratulations from a Florida Chapter member on another California Freeper "Mission Accomplished"!!!!

Carlin to counter Coulter on Leno
Shreveport Times, LA - 15 hours ago
By John Andrew Prime. Maybe not leaner but possibly meaner, former area resident and liberal comedian George Carlin will square off ...
SOME of the moonbats were predicting DISASTER for Ann -- a VERY TOUGH crowd, which would encourage Carlin (and even possibly Leno) to "pile on" -- preventing Ann from speaking, and even talking over her replies, as most of the REST of the Mainstream Media had been doing.

Since I prefer NOT to visit slime pits like DU, DailyKos and HuffPo, here for instance, are a few "pre-game" posts from a place called forums.maxboxing.com:
Carlin will throw a wisecrack in, funny or not, the whole audience will go crazy. Coulter will say anything and the audience will boo. It'll be like an episode of Bill Maher.

-- snip --

coulter is an idiot and will receive a well deserved beating if she and carlin are on stage at the same time...

Actually, some of the OTHER posters at that website was more prescient, particularly after the show began:
Also, the audiences for both Leno and Letterman are hardly left-wing or liberal.

There is still a bit of uncertainty in people as to how they should respond when hearing a joke about Bush or Cheney. It's like they look around to make sure it's ok to laugh.

Also take into account the fact that Coulter's "fans" will probably be flown in to provide support from the crowd.

-- snip --

They didn't even debate or anything. Carlin come on and sang some rap song and Coulter just sat there and talked to Leno. I think that it made Coulter look good!

phonetap thinks there must have been some sort of agreement before hand that kept carlin quiet. ann coulter who prides herself in never saying nice things to liberals was being nice and respectful of carlin and carlin in return was quiet. if this was bill maher, carlin would have been all over coulter so something was up...
