Campaign Highlights Inconsistencies Between Record and Rhetoric
WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Team America PAC has launched a radio campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the campaign is to make Republican Primary voters aware of Representative Chris Cannon's support for illegal alien amnesties and other benefits for illegal aliens even though he represents his record as having been tough on illegal immigration.
On his website, Congressman Cannon claims he's never supported amnesty for illegal aliens and never will. In fact, Cannon has not only supported nine amnesties for illegal aliens, he's actually co-sponsored six amnesties himself. Cannon claims to be tough on illegal immigration yet he's co-sponsored two bills that would reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition. He's voted multiple times against aiding police officers in the apprehension of illegal aliens. Cannon is currently co-sponsoring a bill that protects illegal aliens from prosecution for social security fraud.
Team America' Chairman, Bay Buchanan commented, "Chris Cannon is one of the most pro amnesty congressman in Washington. It is certainly understandable why he would choose to hide his atrocious record on amnesty from his constituents but that in no way justifies the hypocrisy associated with doing so. Utah voters have a right to know if their congressman is deliberately deceiving them, especially on an issue as critical to the nation as illegal immigration."
Team America PAC launched the ad campaign earlier this week in the Salt Lake City market. The radio spots use humor to expose Cannon's claim of being tough on immigration. Throughout the spot the announcer repeatedly asks, "Chris Cannon tough on immigration?" followed by the announcer's description of Chris Cannon's support for an immigration bill that's completely out of synch with most American's views. Over the top crowd laughter then ensues. The radio spot concludes by asking GOP Primary voters to support Cannon's Primary opponent John Jacob "to begin cleaning up the immigration mess Chris Cannon helped make."
Former Reagan administration diplomat Alan Keyes is slated to speak in Utah June 21 at the Provo City Library's ballroom on the topic "Solutions to America's border crisis."
Also speaking will be Carmen Mercer, spokeswoman for the national Minuteman Political Action Committee.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time, and is free and open to the public.
The speeches--which will be preceded by a free screening of the prize-winning documentary "Cochise County: Cries from the Border" and followed by a question and answer session--will address America's ongoing political debate over border security and immigration reform.
Key points of focus will include the national security and public policy implications of failing to protect our borders; President Bush's latest border security proposals; analysis of conflicting House and Senate immigration bills; and Mexican President Vicente Fox's recent visit to Utah, which included an address before the Utah State Legislature.
A leading voice in the current immigration debate, Ambassador Keyes served 11 years in the U.S. State Department. Under President Reagan, he was Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations. Prior to that, he served as ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, where he represented the interests of the United States in the UN General Assembly.
Keyes supports the efforts of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a volunteer border watch organization that monitors illegal incursions into American territory, and whose volunteer membership is building a privately-funded fence to help secure the U.S.-Mexican border.
Said Keyes of his visit, "I always look forward to coming to Utah. This is a state where the people are committed to the faith, values, and decency that have made this nation strong and free."
The event is sponsored by RenewAmerica, Utah Eagle Forum, and Minuteman Political Action Committee.

Well first of all, if you are going to mention me by name, you could have the gonads to ping me.
Second, I'm interested in stopping the tancredo/bay buchanan uber smear machine(teamamerica) dead in it's tracks, such as with the endorsement of good conservative James Sensenbrenner of Chris Cannon.
Or any other means you can invent.
What is it, 4 or 5 times political loser alan keyes has chimed in.
What was that song dandy Don Merideth used to sing at the end of every Monday Night Football in the 70's.
Oh that's right, "Turn Out the Lights".
Cannon did get with the program. Cannon voted for HR4437.
Tell that to your teamamerica tancredo/bay buchanan cronies, who are actively going against good conservatives such as Pence and Cannon.
You are funny. More than one line. Nice.
Cannon voted for HR4437.
Because if he hadn't voted for it he wouldn't even stand a chance this year. He knows that it will not be decided before the election.
Dr. Keyes may have lost a few races, yes.
But he has an largely unnoticed ability to affect Republican primaries across the country when he decides to do so.
True. Of course it would also contain alot of other stuff.
Turn out the lights, the party's over
Big deal. Chris Cannon would unquestionably vote for the senate bill too.
I surmise he only voted that way to push toward a house-senate conference. Too bad it's all going down the tubes now and "the point man for the guest worker plan" might too if John Jacob has his way.
Lame.
In Utah, the delegates to the Republican state convention vote on candidates. If any individual, incumbent or not, gets over 60%, there is NO primary.
John Jacob BEAT Chris Cannon at the convention.
Just so all the readers know...
Woh! When did you become a surfer dude, alan keyes and connie hair, IMO, are not amused.
If I knew how to post pictures it would be nice to have some of the Cannon @ MALDEF Dinner on.
