Inspired by this post from another thread, I give you the table below:

Millions starving, sick, and oppressed - all with the blessings of the previous administration (and with not a lot of dissuasion from the current admin.), yet they have the money and resources to assemble an ICBM and just test fire it.....

Rankings > Military expenditures - percent of GDP (Top 25)

Rank Country Value / Unit
1. Korea, North 22.90 %
2. Jordan 20.20 %
3. Eritrea 11.80 %
4. Oman 11.40 %
5. Qatar 10.00 %
  Saudi Arabia 10.00 %
7. Israel 8.70 %
8. Maldives 8.60 %

Oh... I should have included the US... we're way down from that at 3.30% of GDP

Satellite weather images posted on the Web site of the South's Korea Meteorological Administration showed clouds around the launch site in northeastern North Korea as of early evening.

Karl Rove saves the day with his weather machine, film at 11, flag raising optional but recommended.

Defense Agency says N Korea will not fire Taepodong on Sunday

North Korea is not expected to test-fire a Taepodong 2 long-range ballistic missile within Sunday despite increasing signs indicating such an action, Japanese Defense Agency officials said late Sunday afternoon.

Defense Minister Fukushiro Nukaga called a meeting of Defense Agency officials to analyze information related to North Korea''s suspected preparations for test-launching the missile.

Participants reached a conclusion that there would be no firing at least within Sunday, agency sources said.

Among officials present at the meeting were Vice Defense Minister Takemasa Moriya and Self-Defense Forces Joint Chief of Staff Gen. Hajime Massaki.

Emerging from the meeting, Nukaga told reporters that there were no noticeable development as of late Sunday afternoon. The government will continue to gather information about the situation, he said.

Tell you what. In twenty-five words or less, you describe the Born-Oppenheimer approximation.

If I could do that, I'd be on the faculty somewhere. I could slap together 25 words from the various sources I found on Google, but that wouldn't mean I understand it.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not disputing that Oppenheimer was a smart guy, a hell of a lot smarter than I am. My point was that his main contribution to the Manhattan Project was not in the basic science. It was because he was smart enough to recognize the strengths of his team, understand what they came up with, direct their efforts, and go from an equation to a smoking crater in a matter of a few years.

That's no small feat. Start with a pretty small pool of people who get this stuff to begin with, and then narrow that further to a smaller pool of people who can manage those physicists and keep them pointed in the same direction. Narrow it still further to the folks who can explain it to a layman. That's where you get the exceptionally rare genius of an Oppenheimer, Feynman, Einstein, Sagan or Hawking.

That was my point about von Braun, which I illustrated with the comparison to Oppenheimer. WvB probably couldn't tell you, off the top of his head, how many pounds of thrust a given engine design would produce; but he could, in a nanosecond, point to the guy who knew. And then he'd tell you what that capability would mean for the future of mankind.

Good morning!!!! So, did the flags go up? What was the NK message?

I think the United States ought to reply with our own flag raising.

Good morning. Looking for an update as well.

All I have seen so far is launch delayed due to weather.

It is rather easy to Google Earth search it.

Here. I'll help.

You can zoom and get the support facilities (assembly, fuel) as well as access roads, barracks, administration and the launch complex facility itself (minus a missile on the pad, of course. The most recent was probably taken a year or two ago). Make your Google Earth "longitude and latitude grid marks visible"-capable, and go with the grid, zoom in and out to find. To see these following, try:

launch pad at 40.8557 N, 129,6658 E, an engine test stand at 40.8523 N, 129.6798 E, a missile assembly/checkout building at 40.8558 N, 129.6592 E, and a missile control building at 40.8630 N, 129.6604 E
