Confederate flags flown aboard the international space station and seemingly signed by a NASA astronaut showed up last week on the online auction site eBay.
The original eBay listing indicated that the 4-by-6-inch flags were brought aboard the space station by Russian cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov in 2004, and an accompanying photo showed a sample flag that seemed to bear Sharipovs signature as well as that of Leroy Chiao, his NASA colleague on the station. Yet another photo showed several of the rebel flags floating in a space station module.
The item was pulled from the auction on Monday by the seller, Alex Panchenko of USSR-Russian Air-Space Collectibles Inc. in Los Angeles and on Tuesday, Panchenko told MSNBC.com that he removed the items from sale because he had concluded the flag and the authentication documents were forgeries.
However, Robert Pearlman, editor and founder of CollectSpace, said he believes the flags are authentic.
The picture taken of the flags aboard the station says a lot, he said. It would be difficult to fake, given the style and I couldn't see the motivation to do so. The onboard-the-ISS stamp, added Pearlman, is not known to have been counterfeited anywhere."
The disappearance of the flags followed a round of criticism over the weekend from former space scientist Keith Cowing, publisher of NASA Watch, an independent Web log. He cited the Confederate flags as an example of bad judgment on the ISS.
You'd think that someone on the U.S. side of the ISS program would have expressed some concern about flying a symbol on the ISS that many Americans associate with slavery, Cowing wrote.

Heh-heh! He sure writes like a grad student...from a college where they all play football without helmets.
I provided you with a link to the article. Was it or was it not the study you were talking about?
His day is marching on
Glory, glory hallelujah!
For Joshua Chamberlain and the Schofields,
Mr. Silverback
my ancestor is listed on the rolls of members of the unit.
thus, you have been treated to just another in the "nameless, shunned one's" long list of (i suspect,KNOWING) LIES.

You say that Quantrill's unit fought under that name? Prove it. Point me to a website or book that documents that his command fought under that name.
PROVE IT.
as you are new to the threads, you likely don't know that at least 92 women/children/elderly men of MY family were assaulted/tortured/raped/robbed & finally murdered in cold-blood by some of those "wunnerful, wunnerful" DAMNyankees, during a 4-day drunken orgy, just because they were POOR & "other than white persons".
SADLY, i must tell you that our family's slaughter was FAR from unique. AmerIndians,Asians, Blacks (both slave & free), Catholics,Jews, Latinos & the "poorest of the poor whites" got especially bad treatment at the hands of the "filth that flowed down from the north". on the other hand, the social/educated/monied/propertied elites of the CSA lost nothing but property, if that!

you have LOST this one & are looking more & more FOOLISH!
go do your own "homework" & then come back here and tell me, "i've been DUMB & IGNORANT & i'm sorry."

NOT that one.
Then you are at best, spouting crap and cannot back it up.
But I don't think that's what happened here. I think you were lying and got caught. I can't imagine that CNN ran two stories in the last few days about segregation studies that both mentioned boston and New York, but only one of which mentioned resegregation in the South. A search of CNN shows that the article X cited is the only one on the subject.
You either lied or were so sloppy with the facts that you should issue an apology. Either way you're a hack and a loser. Can you cite a single source for anything you've said in this thread?
go do your own "homework" & then come back here and tell me, "i've been DUMB & IGNORANT & i'm sorry."
Nice try. Quantrill once had his men claim to be part of the Union 4th Missouri Cav, and when some Union troops caught him at a Kentucky farm he claimed to be part of the 4th Confederate Cav (not 4th Missouri) and they decided he was not worth capturing. There are instances of him claiming to be in a 4th Cav, there is even an instance where his men were attached to the 4th Missouri Cav for a period at the end of the war. But there was never a time where Quantrill's unit was known as the 4th MO Partisan Rangers that I can find anywhere, and every reference I can find to Quantrill and 4th Missouri anything is describing a distinct, separate unit that Quantrill is either fighting, working with, or falsely claiming to be a member of. More importantly, the list of ALL Missouri Partisan units Heyworth found DOES NOT LIST ANY SUCH UNIT.
Inescapable conclusion:
stand watie is a liar.
Cite a historical source, please. And while you're at it, consider the millions of people your wonderful Confederacy owned and used as cottonpicking machines because they were "other than white persons."
"Somehow I don't think your Social Order worked for those that were enslaved"
Come on,Paul,THOSE people just don't COUNT.
And then there's the 92 killed in North Carolina. On other threads he's told us that they're all buried in a cemetery together with "KILLED BY THE YANKEES" or somesuch on their graves. Now, you'd think that if there was a massacre of this scale of women and children, with such tangible evidence as a cemetery full of accusatory headstones, that it would be better known? That everybody bitching about Sherman's war crimes would wave this bloody shirt? But no. It's only Watie who seems to know about this.
Unless he provides some tangible details--dates, unit, location--you can be assured that this is as much a piece of Watian BS as his story that there's a U-Boat captured by Texas privateers on display in a Galveston park.
Well, they count as three-fifths...
Do you think he's insane, or a troll?
Sometimes I think he's a computer program that randomly strings together a hundred or so phrases, maybe a crude attempt to pass the Turing Test. Mostly I go with crazed coot who half remembers something he read once, runs it through his "it shoulda been this way" filter, and actually convinces himself that he's speaking the truth. So, short answer: Insane.
But I just noticed something going back in the thread. Watie says that this "Freeman" ancestor of his is on Quantrill's roster, that he participated in the Raid on Lawrence, and that he later boasted of it to some uncle of Watie's or somesuch.
The problem with all that is the the Will Freeman who appears on Quantrill's roster was killed on May 30, 1863. The raid wasn't until almost three months later.
Ah, Lincoln's "mystic chords of memory." I guess those weren't in play when the Confederates shelled Ft. Sumter.
BTW, belated thanks for the original info from your last post.
But i would like to note that my Canadian grandma used to insist we're all Americans. I disagreed, because we're the only nation on earth that has the word "America" in our name. Though from 1861-1865 there were arguably two...
Am reading the book, "The South Was Right" by James and Walter Kennedy. Only up to page 32, because this is a real stomach turning book about, The Wonderful Exploits of Mr. Abraham Lincoln-the president most people think is all that, and a bag of chips too. I knew there were horrendous things he did, but I wouldn't read about them at the time I researched my own book, as that would have really messed with my mind. I guess it follows the saying that one learns about certain things, when they need to know.
