Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.
He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.
The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.
First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.
Here are the President's comments during video conference
And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE
The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!
I'm sure there will be more of these up later, but this is all there are on Yahoo now, and the White House doesn't have any yet.....
Today was a GREAT day wasn't it!!
WOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!
We all KNEW the dose would be really something tonight:)
BUMP! It is truly a thrilling photo!
Hugh Hewitt reports a story on the radio and on his web site. He'll have more details on his web site soon.
Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma just returned from his 11th trip to Iraq. Hewitt concluded an interview with him and among the highlights:
The Minister of Defense asked if the American people had the will to finish with helping Iraq. Inhofe said the American people did but maybe the media didn't.
The new minster of defense in Iraq, Abdul-Qadir Muhammed Jasim, told Inhofe: "I hate CNN."
This was said in English and the reporters heard it!
Great pictures, just great.
This almost looks like our President is bringing another SCOTUS nominee out to introduce him to the public.
Hope springs eternal. August maybe?
thank you so much!
How would you pick just one! This is the most wonderful day and this president risked his life to be with his troops and with that fledgling Iraqi government in a hotbed of terrorism. What a hero in my eyes...and should be in the eyes of the world. We'll see!
OMG! Look at the troops with him. Their faces tell the whole story. LOVE it and them.
Think Tony's glad he said "Yes" to the President?
Does this vest make me look fat??
The press getting off Air Force One.......
THIS was on the way to Camp David (looking up at Laura, methinks). NOW we know what the "cat that ate the canary" grin was all about. :)
You have done a great day's work. Good job. I just got here and am just beginning to enjoy it all. Thank you as always.
Could the toaster read ,instead of "awarded to tiredoflaundry", it reads "awarded to the "dose ping list"? On such a great day as this, I think all of us "bots" should share in the award.
Thank you! It was a great day. It's been a great week...and it's only Tuesday, LOL! Great post. *SMOOCH*
Hi Peach!
:)
Toaster tie again
And with Tom Kean, Jr, in New Jersey............
A Quote from Laura at the Santorum fundraiser...........
don't know how many of you have your blackberries on, but if you haven't heard, the President is in Iraq right now. (Applause.) He flew there last night to meet with the new Iraqi cabinet, which, as you know, they have the new Prime Minister -- Maliki is his name -- and then he just completed the cabinet last week with the new Defense Minister and Interior Minister. So he is there while his Cabinet, the President's Cabinet is at Camp David. They'll have closed, secure videoconference, the two cabinets getting to know each other. And so, I'm thrilled and I'm proud of my husband. (Applause.)
His face simply glows when he is with his troops! God bless him and keep him safe on his journey home, and God keep the troops safe.
Just Awesome pictures. Thanks again for posting..:)
