Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.

He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.

The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.

First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.

Here are the President's comments during video conference

And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE

The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!

Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!

To: ohioWfan; All

Hello everyone--

It's been very busy around here; the "other" nurse on my private duty case got fired so I get ALL the hours! Only 7AM-NOON Mon-Fri. but more than my family and I are used to. Much welcome, though, money wise! And it's a great job.

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well. I do a quick "drive by" several times a week, but just had to reply today! I turned on the TV at work and when I saw where GW was, I almost let out a cheer right there! That man is AWESOME!

I know I'll never get thru the whole thread tonight, but know I'm thinking of all my friend on FR and praying for the President's safe return. I'm thinking they will be home around midnight tonight? I always have trouble figuring with the time changes.

Hope to "talk" to you all again soon . . . I'll try to check in in a little while if the family isn't home.

:-)

"...Saddam tried to kill my Dad. Now here we are in his palace, and he's in a jail cell being photographed in his underpants..."

What a great quote. Although I think I'd rather see tightie whities on Dubya. Lol.

HEADS UP:

C-Span will re-broadcast the President's meeting with the Iraqi PM and THE PRESIDENT'S REMARKS TO HIS TROOPS at midnight EDT, (9 PM for those of you on the west coast):

The President's remarks to his troops MUST BE SEEN TO BE APPRECIATED -- He is soooooooooooooo incredibly emotional (I lost it with his "I thank you from the bottom of my heart" comment as he was fighting back the tears!)

BUSH MAKES A SURPRISE VISIT TO BAGHDAD
By JOHN F. BURNS and DEXTER FILKINS
Published: June 13, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq, June 13 — President Bush made a surprise visit to Baghdad today and held direct talks with Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, offering a dramatic show of support to the new government while driving home that the country's future lay in Iraqi hands.

This article provides the best chronology I've read so far! (and it's even from the NYTimes):
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/13/world/middleeast/13cnd-iraq.html?hp&ex=1150257600&en=5129d14357181634&ei=5094&partner=homepage

A LIFT IN IRAQ AND A BUMP BACK HOME
Bush, in Baghdad Tuesday, rides a wave of welcome news - including a rise in job approval.
By Linda Feldmann
The Christian Science Monitor

WASHINGTON – The pictures out of Baghdad Tuesday morning spoke volumes. George W. Bush is beaming, the new Iraqi leader at his side, after pulling off a secret flight to the country that is the make-or-break project of his presidency. On his five-hour visit, President Bush met with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, other top Iraqis, and US troops, in a show of resolve aimed at war-weary audiences in Iraq, America, and the rest of the world.
But Mr. Bush has more to smile about than recent successes in Iraq, foremost the completion of the new government and elimination of terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Bush's top political adviser, Karl Rove, has learned he won't be indicted in the CIA leak case. And the latest Gallup poll shows Bush at his highest job approval - 38 percent of the public - since February.

SO, HOW CAN THE PRESIDENT TOP TODAY'S VISIT TO IRAQ? Read the next article . . .

BUSH AND KOIZUMI TO VISIT ELVIS HOME
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush and Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, a huge Elvis Presley fan, will visit Graceland Mansion on June 30 to pay homage to the king of rock and roll.

POLLING UPDATE:

Gallup/USAToday discovered a "bounce":
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-06-13-poll-results_x.htm

IBD/TIPP discovered a "bounce":
http://www.investors.com/editorial/IBDArticles.asp?artsec=5&issue=20060609

And actually, Rasmussen also discovered a bounce! Remember, Rasmussen tightly controls his 'weightings'. This control reduces swings in measures such as JA ratings -- So it's noteworthy for a Rasmussen poll to find a change from
39A 60D (-21)
to
42A 57D (-15)
particularly given the current stock market correction and another rise in gas prices!

FYI:
The following MSM pollsters will NEVER record a "bounce" for the President. Why? It's the sample stupid!

CBSNEWS
CBS just posted the internals of their BOGUS 4.5 MOE poll:
29% Republicans
36% Democrats
35% Independents (i.e., more Democrats)
http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/june122006.pdf

AP/IPSOS REID
AP/Ipsos Reid just published a poll which boasted the following breakdown:

37% Republican/Republican-leaning Independents
53% Democrat/Democrat-leaning Independents
-16 UNBELIEVABLE

BOTTOM LINE: It's been a GREAT week for the President, the free world, and us BUSHBOTS!

You are so right about that. I just keep thinking about the Libs. making fun of the President when he said "I looked into his eyes..." and I trust him. But I remember my father and grandfather saying that same type of statement about men they would do business with- most always worked out. Love our President. Very proud.
