I can't imagine why, given the pathetic HEALTH CARE program they offer.

I give it six months before the employees form a union.

Wal-Mart is a bad corporate citizen Yeah, they don't even offer health care benefits to part-time workers. What a sweat shop. No wonder they only got 8,000 applicants to fill 350 jobs.

Wal-mart must have rustled a lot of people out of bed at gunpoint and forced them to fill out applications.

Armed Walmart executives were on hand to force the prisoners to fill out zee papers. Whips and chains had to be used on a few resistors.

I can't imagine why, given the pathetic HEALTH CARE program they offer. It's pretty standard.
The statistic that so many Wal-Mart employees receive public health benefits is a half-truth: it is standard for employees to go through a probationary period before receiving full benefits. Since Wal-Mart is the largest employer in many states, it is only logical that they would also have the most employees on probation.
You prefer half-truths, don't you?

You're right, if this is the job that people want to work as a lifetime job. However, if you look at it as a stepping stone for something more, ie, time to work on a degree, a job as a teenager, an additional income, or a retiree wanting to get out of the house, it's great. I think people are missing the big picture here. Wal-Mart isn't a career- take care of your family kind of job, and those who look at it that way are near-sighted. It's a low-paying job because it doesn't require a large amount of skill.

Mr. Restivo said that several hundred of the applications came from New York City residents, and 23 New Yorkers were hired. He said those workers will commute each day to New Jersey from as far away as the Bronx, and that the average wage for employees will be about $10.50 an hour. A developer recently canceled an agreement with Wal-Mart for a site in New York City under pressure from unions and elected officials, so now New Jersey gets the development and the jobs -- and even hires a number of New Yorkers to fill those jobs. I'm guessing that at least 25% of the people who shop at this Wal-Mart will be New Yorkers, too.
In case anyone out there is wondering how a corrupt sh!t-hole like New Jersey can remain viable, it's important to remember that being located across the river from two of the most fouled-up places in North America (New York City and Philadelphia) sure helps.

Folks in NJ should come out to CA!
Pavillions & Ralphs are hiring and they pay THREE TIMES what the Waltons pay and you get medical insurance too!
Can't beat the weather here either. :-]
