Bush makes surprise trip to Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - President Bush, seeking to bolster support for Iraq's burgeoning government and U.S. war policy at home, made a surprise visit to Iraq on Tuesday to meet newly named Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and discuss the next steps in the troubled, 3-year-old war.

It was a dramatic move by Bush, traveling to violence-rattled Baghdad less than a week after the death of terror chief Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in a bombing attack. The president was expected to be in Baghdad a little more than five hours.

Bush met with al-Maliki in heavily fortified green zone at a palace once used by Saddam Hussein. It now serves temporarily as the U.S. Embassy.

"Good to see you," exclaimed al-Maliki, who didn't know Bush was in Baghdad until five minutes before they met.

"Thanks for having me," Bush responded. They smiled broadly and gave each other a two-handed handshake in the high-domed marble room.

The trip was known only to a handful of aides and a small number of reporters sworn to secrecy because of obvious security threats for Bush and members of his entourage.

"discuss the next steps in the troubled, 3-year-old war"

Uh oh! It appears the US is involved in a second war, one in which there's "trouble"? Bummer. But I doubt GW went to Iraq to discuss that other war with the new prime minister. More likely he visited Iraq to give the PM a high five for the success Iraq and the coalition have had to date in their untroubled takedown of terrorists.

More likely, the Dems will claim that it's a campaign stump, intended to boost the President's abismal poll ratings.

I think I know how the democrats will be spinning this story. And they might be right. But I don't want to post here what I think they'll say for fear that they will actually use it. I think it's a negative. I'll hve to think about it (posting it or not).

It doesn't matter how the media, democrat socialist of America, liberals or anyone else spins this trip by President Bush.

He is the CIC and the troops will be pleased their CIC cares enough to put his life in danger. That's all that matters. The support for our brave troops.

God Bless them all.

He is the CIC

That part is true. And I appreciate and applaud his visit to the troops.

But, he is not just the CinC.

Just another piece of awesome news today.

I am so glad that we have a real man as CIC. Can you imagine one of the slimeballs that ran against him doing this?

Glad to see that he is putting the survival of this fledgling democracy and new friend in the Middle East at the top of his priority list, the danger be damned. I don't care how the MSM and the DUmmies spin this, or whether it can be viewed as a photo op or not. To me this is a man getting recharged and re-energized after a long, tough year, and for a man who values his relationship with the troops, what better way to do it than to go over there and share just a fraction of their danger with them.

Go W!

Actually, Jack Murtha, Nancy Pelosi and scores of other traitor/treason Democrats should be indicted, arrested, and tried for being traitors and guilty of gross treason against the USA, convicted and given the maximum punishment for such crimes for openly aiding and abetting the enemies of our wonderful country. The American military boys and girls that lost their lives because of this scum enabling and encouraging the enemy can never come back. This vermin should join them in the hereafter, with one exception. The Demcrat bile should rot in hell forever!!!

That was a wonderful thing, even for those of us here at home. It showed Pres. Bush's dedication to the troops he commands, and this visit shows his determination that the fledgling democracy in Iraq succeed. A state visit from the President of the United States to the leaders of the new Iraq government is a real boost for them - after all, Pres. Bush hasn't paid a visit to France recently. You have a great webpage, and thank you for your service!

The sad news is he only brought CNN along with him.

Since they are meeting in one of Saddam's old palace maybe CNN could show President Bush where their office was before the war started.

[sarcasm] World-renowned conspiracy theorist, Michael Moore, will probably make a movie showing that Bush was secretly crowned Emperor of Iraq while he was in Baghdad. [/sarcasm]

The Dems look even more like idiots as they try to spin Bush's brave visit. Bush has a spine, but Dems don't; so they spin.
