Immigration Legislation Introduced to Mirror Mexico's Immigration Policies
Federation for American Immigration Reform Legislative Update ^ | 6/12/2006 | FAIR

Posted on 06/12/2006 5:31:34 PM PDT by bordergal

Representative John Linder (R-GA) introduced legislation last week titled the "U.S. General Population Act." Through the accompanying statement issued by his office, Congressman Linder said:

The question of immigration will, in my opinion, become the defining issue of the next generation. Unfortunately, the debate over securing our borders and protecting the interests of our citizens is too often demonized by the opposition and turned into an ugly accusation of racism. For this reason, I have introduced the U.S. General Population Act, a bill designed to align the immigration laws of the United States with those of Mexico. This bill simply reflects the same immigration restrictions implemented by Mexico with the same consequences for those in violation.

The Congressman's statement continued by setting forth the provisions of the U.S. General Population Act:

Requires the Department of Homeland Security to regulate our laws toward the goal of full assimilation for legal immigrants into a U.S. culture. Strengthens the government's ability to regulate the entry into and exit from the United States, whether through land, water, or air transportation. Affords legal immigrants the ability to become permanent residents after five years in the United States.

Allows for the full registration of all foreign nationals in the United States. Reinforces a prohibition on illegal entry into the United States. Increases penalties for violations of immigration law, including stiffer fines and time in prison for repeat offenders or human traffickers.

This is *exactly* what is needed. Mexico can't protest that we're doing anything they aren't, and the liberals will have to admit that Mexico is trying to keep out their illegal aliens with force.

Immigration laws imposed and actually enforced by Mexico are fierce compared to ours.

But that is supposed to be a secret.

Bbbbut, they aren't Mexico's immigrants, they are just
transiting to become illegal immigrants in the US.

The closer this can mirror Mexican law the better. Those who would hurl the usual and customary epithets of racism would be, by default, accusing the Mexican Government of racism.

Now that is great! Man I can't wait to see how this plays in the liberal mind. I think they might have a real breakdown.

Brilliant move on the part of Representative Linder. Mexico's immigration policies are strictly enforced. I know because I have done consulting work down there.

This sounds very good on first blush. Here's the down-side.

We pass the very laws Mexico has at this time. Ten minutes later Mexico changes it's laws and demands we do the same.

End of bliss.

Screw Mexico. We pass our own laws which close the border and allow a very limited number of guest workers, 500k to 1,000k max. That's not per year. That's in total. No more than 500k to 1,000k at a time period.

We register those new guest workers and expel the rest. I don't advocate we round them up, but we make it tough on employers and refuse to give freebies to illegal aliens from a dead set date. Beyond that they go without unless they can get Mexico to pay for it in Mexico.

What would be even better is another Republican member offer a bill modeled after Senator Reid's 1993 proposal.

Then they can talk about a "compromise" between the two.

Now... if only the LaME (Liberal Media Establishment) report the idea behind this bill (similar to Mexico's)...
