A discussion about protests by an anti-homosexual church at the funerals of fallen American soldiers turned into an astounding shoutfest on national television this weekend, with Fox News host Julie Banderas calling a fire-and-brimstone Christian preacher "the devil" and apparently condemning her to hell.
"You are the devil!" Banderas exclaimed to Shirley Phelps-Roper. "If you believe in the Bible, miss, you're going to hell!" Phelps-Roper: "You're proud. You're proud of your sins. You can't do enough sinning. You think 'gay' pride, bimbo. You have sinned away your day of grace."
Banderas: "OK, you are an abomination."
Phelps-Roper: "America is doomed. America is doomed. ... Before your eyes, missy, you're gonna see the destruction of America."
I wonder whether she was really quoting what she knows or whether someone just prepped her for it. I suspect that the verse in Leviticus is one that the kooks use on a regular basis, and she was told by Fox consultants that she could take it further to get context and try to make Phelps sound ridiculous. (I mean more ridiculous than she sounds anyway.)
Bill
yep
and yes they are big time liberals too, although generally liberals aren't this blatant at this agent poseur type tactic.
No doubt *couldn't*.
I thought she handled it pretty well, and was surprised watching it, cuz thats the first time I've seen one of the fox newsies get into the face of a "guest" like she did. Give her a raise, or at least more airtime!
Never met her before (don't have cable/fox).. but I like her too now. She told it like it was, she was fast on her feet, and she showed that she didn't like people perverting God's word for money reasons.
I think the show will repeat at 1:00am, but I see some have posted links also.
I saw most of it. She did.
Generations of inbreeding will do that.
I read your about page and I think I love you! LOL!
> I would like a second source please
It's absolutely for real. Saw part of it myself.
Good for you, Julie! I'm sure you just made a bunch of new fans here on FR.
Were there lightning bolts being blasted between the two? It sounds like some fictional exorcism.
snicker...
I saw it with my own two eyes..... and heard it with my own two ears... it did happen, much to my shock and amazement.
Dunno about Hannity, I rarely watch that show and have been out of hte country for several weeks. Thats why i'm posting so much, no TV or computer games.
Banderas recently provided live updates on Hurricane Dennis from the National Hurricane Center in Miami and reported on its devastation in the surrounding areas. She traveled to Aruba to cover the Natalee Holloway disappearance and provided extensive reports from Florida on the Terri Schiavo case. Banderas also covered the murder of Jessica Lunsford by a registered sex offender.
Prior to joining FNC, Banderas was the weekend anchor at WNYW-TV (FOX) in New York where she was awarded the "Outstanding Single Newscast" Emmy award in 2004 for her coverage of the Republican National Convention. Earlier, she served as an anchor for several local news stations, including WFSB-TV (CBS) in Hartford, WHSV-TV (ABC) in Harrisonburg, Virginia and WBRE-TV (NBC) in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She began her career at WLVI-TV in Boston.
Banderas earned her bachelor's degree from Emerson College.
Hate the sin but not the sinner. There are so many things wrong with this group from a religious perspective. If they truly loved Jesus then it would show in their behavior. They would not harrass the loved ones at a funeral. They would not judge people. They would not do most of the things they are doing.
The bible and Jesus talks about these kind of people. They can be forgiven but the sins are already written so they won't be forgotten.
Thanks, message sent. These people are so far over the line its great to see someone pushing back.
Phelps also called her a bimbo.
Hate the sin, but not the sinner is not in the Bible as far as I can determine.
I also disagree with your "if they truely loved Jesus ---~~They would not Judge people.
I understand where you are coming from sorta, but all Christians are called to judge period. Judge righteously" (Deut. 1:16-17; Lev. 19:15 (Jesus said, "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" (John 7:24). )... "he who is spiritual judges all things. For... we have the mind of Christ" (1 Cor. 2:15-16). "Those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them." (Prov. 24:25).
"Every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord " (Isa. 54:17).
To abhor evil, someone must first judge evil. God instructs men against "hypocrisy" commanding them to "abhor what is evil" (Rom. 12:9). Thus, unable to judge, and unaccustomed to abhorrence, Christians en masse become hypocrites when they obey the Hypocrites Golden Rule. For "judge not" (Mat. 7:1-5) is simply a hypocrites application of do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Mat. 7:12). "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged" (Mat. 7:2). Judge others as you would have them do unto you inverted is Judge not if you do not want to be judged. Therefore the hypocrite does not judge. As Jesus said, "Judge not you hypocrite" (Mat. 7:1, 5 KJV; Ezek. 16:52). Christ kept this theme throughout His ministry. "Hypocrites," Jesus said, "why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?" (Luke 12:56-57). Still, His own followers have mostly ignored the Lords harsh rebuke: "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brothers eye" (Mat. 7:5). "Judge Not" is the Hypocritical Oath.
Unfortunately, the Phelps have hypocrisy cornered. Their motives on money put them firmly in that corner. But judging is definitely a Christian job. Phelps are not Christian IMHO, just money chasing charlatans.
