I don't know any 40 year olds that have a 16 year old spouse. I hear about it in the news every now and then when they give interviews from jail.
Oh, not -ALL-... we don't have a monopoly on perversion as regards marrying below our generation. There's folks in Utah and parts of the South that can put NorthEastern pervs to shame in that regard. Note: all perfectly legally, mind you.

I'm not saying it's a good thing -- in fact I argued against it in my original comment. I'm only saying, American laws specifically permit it, many at ages below 16, and with no upper limit on the older person.
