UPDATE 6/11/06:
UPDATE--PROTEST RALLY to fly American Flags on FLAG DAY - San Bernardino
FReepers--
Next Wednesday, June 14 is FLAG DAY.
I am FURIOUS!
The City of San Bernardino has voted to NOT DISPLAY a large AMERICAN FLAG previously flown at City Hall, on national holidays since it might offend somebody. It took two votes--the final one was 4 to 3.
At issue is not the small U.S. flag normally flown but the big one that has been previously flown at City Hall.
Four City Council Members have refused to permit the large flag to be flown on patriotic National Holidays, for fear of 'offending' someone.
We want that large American Flag again flown PROUDLY, on America's National Holidays!
Along with others, I am organizing a rally at San Bernardino City Hall for Wednesday beginning at 3pm.
WITH AMERICAN FLAGS.
If you are within driving distance of San Bernardino--please plan to be there.
If you can forward this info to someone in the area, please do so.
If you can HELP me and others, we want Boy Scouts, Military, Teachers, everybody there with flags. Peacefully.
I will add further information to this thread and ping those who reply. I am off to meetings and will add more information and replies later.
Posted below is a color flyer you can print, email or post. Please get this to as many people as possible.
Wherever you live, this kind of attitude is heading your way among career politicians and we MUST nip it in the bud now.
Thanks!
For God and Country,
Lyman
Here is the City Council page--it does not show vote details.
I understand there was an article in the San Bernardino Sun newspaper about the vote but I did not find it in the online version.
Official Meeting Minutes including the roll call vote is not online-only available hardcopy at the City Clerk's meetings.
Here is a Summary of the vote:
In the Right Column for May 15 is a link to a PDF file. Item 43 records the motion as having failed.
Here is the exact text from that PDF:
43.
Display of U.S. Flag on Memorial Day, Flag Day and Fourth of July. (See Attached)
Failed
MOTION: That the Facilities Department be directed to display the 22x30 U.S. Flag on Memorial Day, Flag Day and on Fourth of July.
ping, please keep in sidebar as long as possible, thanks.
This recently happened in Britain, but i didn't expect it here. It's sad when a city won't fly the flag on a national holiday for fear of offending those who aren't even here legally.
ping for Wednesday activism on FLAG DAY to make sure our FLAG is FLOWN!
This is an absolute outrage!!!
Do you still do the So Cal PINGS?
Here is one for the So Cal Ping list.
I wish I could go to that rally. But I live in Texas and cannot travel. Please send this information to Bill O'Reilly. I don't care for him that much but he does seem to jump on an issue and run with it. I think this will be one of thse issues for him. I will e-mail him also but it will carry more weight from someone who lives in California.
We Confederate Flag defenders tried to warn people that the CBF was only the first step in the Leftist campaign against American Flags and traditions and that "Old Glory" would be next. Too bad few people paid us any attention when we could have nipped this crap in the bud.
Hopefully it's not too late.
That's disgusting!!
No freakin' way! How could those jokers have voted against the flag? This is America and, by golly, we have every right to fly Old Glory. Sounds like they need to be excused from their seats IMMEDIATELY. You should get a petition started to remove them. Call the radio and tv stations and get them out there Wednesday and have them give out US flags.
Do you have any kind of newsclip or official minutes or something of that nature?
Or at least when did this vote occur?
I'm serious. Get the media out there. They'll have it splashed all over the air waves and have them name the members who voted against the flag.
Godspeed and best of luck in your campaign to remind these weak-spined wimps or worse, what it means to be patriotic. Hope they realize by your actions that there are plenty of citizens out there who still are patriots. Wish I could join you.
You can see the vote item on the City Council agenda, I think it's item #43, go to the link in the story.
Actual minutes are not online, apparently only hardcopy at City Clerk's office. I will seek to get copies and post them when I deliver a letter to council members tomorrow.
I'm off to meet with some people on this now, back in a while.
Unreal ping.
bttt
Please ping your list, thank you.
Wish the names of the idiot pols who voted not to display the flag were known.
