Jealous guardians of high standards or just . . . jealous? There was a rare bit of consensus on tonight's Fox News Watch, as journalists from left and right came together to excoriate Ann Coulter for what they judged to be her money-motivated excesses in her latest opus, 'Godless: The Church of Liberalism'. The focus was on Coulter's controversial statements about the Jersey Girls - the 9/11 widows turned harsh Bush administration critics. Highlighted was this excerpt from Ann's book:
"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them . . . I have never seen people enjoying their husband's death so much."
Here's a sampling of statement's from the News Watch crew:
National Review editor Rich Lowry observed that those who publicly proclaim their outrage "might as well go to the bank, take out bags of money, and hand them to Ann Coulter. This is bait. They take it every single time. And Ann, no matter what you think of her, is a marketing genius."
Lefty Neal Gabler: "I blame anyone who puts this lunatic on their air or gives her a forum. If she were a 300-pound balding man, she would be just a crackpot."
Jim Pinkerton, columnist at Newsday and TCS: "I think she jumped the shark on this one. She went too far. She crossed the line. She's like a heroin addict. She's addicted to publicity and money. And eventually it destroys you."
Summed up Jon Scott, guest-hosting for Eric Burns "ka-ching, ka-ching."
"Only among those who can't find anything better to do on a Saturday.
And what's with this Julian character in the morning?
This guy is dumber then Jack Bauer's daughter.
As someone else brought up, this issue was an old one. The transgressions felt, the behaviors seen, the facts gathered, and a book written.
Many have asked why AC brought this up, why she would stab these women in the back while thier husbands had just died.....
Well. She didn't. She wrote these things in a book, after the incicents, and with fully documented sources for her facts. Her statements about the quality of the marriages was her opinion, written in her book. All wide open.
The issue was brought to the forefront by the MSM who chose to attack her book sales with it.
Everyone acts like she just spouted these words, when it is about what is written in the book. After the fact, after investigation, after confirmation.
Do not go thinking that AC goes off half-cocked. As a lawyer, she is very aware of consequences of speech. She wasn't even speaking, it was written in a book, yet most FR readers believe she spoke these words the very day after 9/11.
The MSM's attempt to sink her book are failing, as a look at sales will show.
(Denny Crane: "Every one should carry a gun strapped to their waist. We need more - not less guns.")
The premise was good -- the panelists suck and Eric Burns doesn't control them.
Also Ann has called Lowry a 'girly man' over the flap of her September 12 2001 column.
I was just so annoyed by the way John Kasich (sp?) treated Anne on Fox that I instantly went to order her book!
She spoke the "truth to power" in my humble opinion, and I only wish I had the courage to be so totally honest.
This from a very proper li'l ol' lady, with grandchildren.
No. Since this show came on tonight, how could I get something last night from Pinkerton's words tonight?
But Pinkerton is right. She IS addicted to publicity and money.
Are you Larry the Cable Guy ;-)
The man suddenly pretends to be so high and mighty???????????????
Give me a break.
Bones has a red meat audience (i.e., people like you). She knows that you will buy red meat if a blonde with legs throws it at you and it trashes people on the other side.
She knew that she crossed the line with these comments. She also knew that you would defend her if she would have spit on one of these women in public. So, she spits on them verbally, you love it, you buy her book, she makes money, does her Bart "what's the problem?" Simpson act, and you eat that up.
A dog couldn't be better trained than you are when it comes to Coulter.
They allowed themselves to be exploited by the demonrats in congress and especially Tom Kean.
It is my understanding that Kristin Breitweiser felt offended that Rudy Guiliani was given the opportunity to make a victim impact statement at the Moussaoui trial. She demanded to know why he was giving a statement....after all he didn't lose anyone on 9/11.
These women are twisted evil witches. Consumed by their hate rhetoric that they are blinded to the facts.
I never paid them any attention until Ann's book.
As always, you have them nailed.
That's Coulter. She always personally attacks anyone who disagrees with her.
She has to write books for a living because nobody, but nobody but Terry Jeffries, will give her a job on a conservative publication.
Ann does not play well with others. That's also why the only man she sleeps with at night is Ben Franklin.
"Today I walked down to the Bay (actually a little bayou off St. Andrew Bay) and 'limited out' on speckled trout."
What is the limit there?
That is a great idea!!
The old "news" media is DEAD.
They just aren't bright enough to know it.
Listen to them cry out in agony.
The man was not an American citizen and could not get security clearance.
Not a peep from the Jersey Girls. Just silence!
They're frauds and while I have tremendous sorror for their children, they themselves are a disgrace.
John Kasich on 'Heartland' did just as bad. He even admitted he hasn't read the book. He also commented that his wife thought Ann was hateful. Ann kept getting him to admit that he had not read it, and asking him to please do so, so he would know what he was talking about.
Ann is amazing. In any debate against a lib/socialist/rat she brings more firepower than anyone I have ever seen.
Prepared, intellectually-armed, and grind-them-into-dust delivery.
Go Ann Go!
Run Rats Run!
