'Heroin Addict', 'Lunatic', 'Crackpot': Fox News Watch Unkind to Coulter

Jealous guardians of high standards or just . . . jealous? There was a rare bit of consensus on tonight's Fox News Watch, as journalists from left and right came together to excoriate Ann Coulter for what they judged to be her money-motivated excesses in her latest opus, 'Godless: The Church of Liberalism'. The focus was on Coulter's controversial statements about the Jersey Girls - the 9/11 widows turned harsh Bush administration critics. Highlighted was this excerpt from Ann's book:

"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them . . . I have never seen people enjoying their husband's death so much."

Here's a sampling of statement's from the News Watch crew:

National Review editor Rich Lowry observed that those who publicly proclaim their outrage "might as well go to the bank, take out bags of money, and hand them to Ann Coulter. This is bait. They take it every single time. And Ann, no matter what you think of her, is a marketing genius."

Lefty Neal Gabler: "I blame anyone who puts this lunatic on their air or gives her a forum. If she were a 300-pound balding man, she would be just a crackpot."

Jim Pinkerton, columnist at Newsday and TCS: "I think she jumped the shark on this one. She went too far. She crossed the line. She's like a heroin addict. She's addicted to publicity and money. And eventually it destroys you."

Summed up Jon Scott, guest-hosting for Eric Burns "ka-ching, ka-ching."

His wife never read the book either. She was just mouthing the stuff she heard about it. Pathetic, if you ask me. On top of that his EGO took up so much time he only had two questions to ask Ann from the E mails. I bet there were thousands that came in. What a total Idiot. I'm glad he is not in Congress anymore, we have enough like him in there now.

There's no doubt in my mind that people on the Left are evil.

Don't know if she still reads FR, but she was a big fan during our early years.

If Coulter looked like Maggie Gallagher (an overweight conservative columnist), you wouldn't give her the time of day.

Yeah I would...and I did before ever seeing a picture. I had only heard her on talk radio and read some quotes but it wasn't until a year or so ago that I first saw her picture posted on this forum.

My favorite read is Thomas Sowell and I also don't care one way or another about his legs.

Your replies are dripping with something very personal and I hope it works out OK because that's a heavy burden to carry.

Lowry must still be steamed about the "girly men at Nat'l Review" remark.

Not that he'll ever hit #1 at Amazon.

It's no burden to me that I think Ann Coulter is partly responsible for the poisonous political atmosphere in the country. You just don't like it that I'm not cheering on her cruelty to other people.

Not surprising that Gabler had a serious snit about Ann. Her attention and material success has a lot of these media types absolutely green and eaten up with envy, including some on the conservative side.

The one I really think will be having a major snit is Bill O'Reilly. He's going to have his knickers in a very serious twist over her success. Of course, he will say it's because she's mean, but it's really because she's getting all the attention and money.

Yes, they are. And they are proving it on this issue. As much as I don't like Ann's comments, I would never break bread with loonie lefties on this subject. I'll leave that to the Quislings.

"She went too far. She crossed the line.
No bonehead. The millionaire broads "went too far" and "crossed the line" when they exploited the deaths of their husbands for personal, political and financial gain. This isn't rocket science boys. Now that FOX has swerved over to Georgie Soros' left, they have become just too "sensitive." Maybe they should have invited the "Jersey Girls" on the show and gave them all a "hug.""

Well said - it was pretty disgusting last week to hear O'Reilly castigate Coulter for "insensitive" comments.

I'm just going to let the two of you go at it. It's between the two of you and it's obvious you have a burr under your saddle and it doen't involve me.

LOL!! O'Reilly could buy and sell Coulter five times over. Coulter has no cable show and no radio show. And it's not because she doesn't want both of those.

"It's her vicious personality"

I agree. Way to vicious, not my cup of tea..as they say. Ann could get the message across without being so mean, in my opinion. But, who am I ...just another poster who reads the news. Ann is a very rich lawyer / writer....hmmm, maybe I shoud turn to being vicious :-) Nah...not my style.

Bones has a red meat audience

I can't believe that a conservative would stoop to name-calling to make a point.

Why is it OK for Coulter to do it and not me?

Would "Harpy" be better? That's her name for the 9/11 widows.

"Bones" is better, IMO. It fits.

If you could harvest all those "sour grapes" you could put the Napa Valley out of business.

Guardians of high standards...

Coming from anyone having to do with television or network news, that's a real comedy.

To: jacquej; All

jacquej,
I saw weasely Kasich trying to get Ann to "just be nice".

Ann didn't back down for a second---- thank goodness!
Ann, you don't need to hear it from me, but YOU'RE TERRIFIC!

We are in a war for the survival of this country. From outside and, sadly and more seriously, from within. Thank the Lord there is at least one person left to openly and honestly stand up and publicly challenge these Liberals.

Her comments to Hillary Clinton were the most hard hitting and direct of anyone, perhaps ever! Priceless! And, with the internet and cable news, they actually got reported by the media. Wahoo!

Perhaps if she had said, "The broads profiteered from their husbands deaths, rather than they enjoyed their husbands deaths.......I know what she was saying, but the liberal are seizing on, "they enjoyed", rather than examining what she said and the point she is making. This only serves those who seek to destroy another through the 15 second sound bite. Remember she is a lawyer and in deposition there is a lot of fishing, but there is demand for candor. She is demanding candor or at least an examination of their profiteering or gaming the deaths of their family member for fortune and fame and a political cause. In either case it does say something about their devotion to their memories and their fidelity to truth to use as a tool 9/11. Does anyone remember when the dems were raising hell about whether it would be appropriate to use 9/11 in the political arena. That is what Ann is saying the Jersey girls are doing. And she goes on to point out that like Sheehan they are off limits as to the analysis in a political sense because of their loss. So the dems put them out there to criticize the political opponents of the left who are then attacked for daring to respond. Ann seems fed up and articulates this tool of the left, and the left does not like it. Good for Ann.
