Flat income tax and user fees for government services. Tariffs are merely a national sales tax and VAT by any other name.
I don't expect as a conservative, to "get everything I want", that's not going to happen. But I expect my representatives to at least try. Fight for it. Declare the conservative agenda, and try to move the ball. All the time, everywhere. If we lose a battle, regroup and try again, not regroup and see how we can make Ted Kennedy and the MSM not say we're mean.
Flat income tax without the high personal exemption would have to be very low (as low as the poorer people can afford). As a result you would get state as weak as in Latin America. What about dividends, capital gain, property tax etc ?
So you prefer income tax over tariffs?
user fees for government services
This would be worse than poll tax.
That boy would f--k up a two-car funeral.
For better or worse, that sums it up. People here and elsewhere that think Republicans will get automatic victories just because they have an "R" next to their name are sadly mistaken.
Why don't us paleo-Freepers just make one of our own? The FreeParty or something.
Piss poor analysis. Conservatives, neo, paleo, or any other stripe, are dismayed by two things. Spending and immigration. Same things conservatives were dismayed about during Reagan's presidency.
This whole Bush is a neo-con crap is phony. He grew up a republican in a old line republican family. I've heard people call Rummy a neo-con. What crap. He's in his 70s and has been a stalwart GOPer all these years, before the stinking term "neo-con" was invented.
If George Bush and Condi and Cheney and Rummy and Bolton and Tony Snow and Richard Perle and Rush and Bill Bennett and Tommy Franks and Brit Hume are all neo-cons, then the term means nothing.
You said -- "I will NOT vote for a Republican who has dissed the social conservatives the way that John McCain has."
Yes, I wouldn't vote for him either. My reasoning is basically I don't vote for crazy people for President. I think he was tortured too much. And if so, that's never a qualification for President. In my mind -- that's a *disqualification* for President of the United States.

And, Do you think RATS in control will give you results you will like?
Do you really think it is globalism which motivates them and which might very well cause them to jump left?
Bonnie is simply trying to redraw the lines of division and clean up the Paleo image a bit. Since most people are totally uninformed about Paleos it might work if Buchanan can keep his racism under control long enough.
Paleos are rabidly anti-Israel and pro-isolationists on trade as well as any foreign intervention. They literally cannot see anything that is more than a mile off the coast of the US. If they were in charge it would be worse than Clinton. We'd be fighting terrorism on the streets of every city in this country.
So yes, they are fossils.
We need to keep the good conservative principles that they share with more logical conservatives and let the bad die with the fossilized Paleos.
Latin America is NOT an example of laissez faire, free market capitalism. The reason such countries are so screwed up has more to do with culture, and one that encourages economic corporatism and "family owned large enterprises. I love it when the paleo/ream-em novarum crowd love to trot out the Latin boogeyman on a regular basis, forgetting that a mixture of cultural Catholocism, disdain for enterpreneurship, and corporatavist statist economic policies are the reason for Latin America's failure.
My definition of a neocon is a Republican who favors big government so long as it is big government controlled by Republicans. On foriegn policy they tend to search for incipient Hitlers in every little bumf--k country on earth in order to "nation build" and infest others with their poison.
They do not disavow socialism because doing so would call into question their government policy.
"No, thats why I won't vote for them. And if the Reps won't stand up and give me the results I want, I won't vote for them either."
A non vote, or a non Republican vote will be the same as voting for the RATS, because that is the result of that.
Either way you will be sitting on the sidelines with RATS in control.
You may call that a moral victory if you wish, I call it a nightmare.
"Has it made any difference?"
There are still over one million babies a year being murdered by abortion every year. Deficit spending is worse than ever, as is our trade deficit with China. We are still forced to put our money into the government's Ponzi scheme of a Social Security system that will be broke in 20 years. Medicare is on its last legs, but this president and congress just added billions more in liability through the drug bill. There is still the worthless Dept. of Education, whose abject failure can be measured every year in plummeting SAT scores. There is still the worthless Dept. of Energy that has given us $3/gal. gasoline and is run by the energy special interests. Our border situation is the worst in US history, with nothing being done until these election year jitters in congress, and after the election, this will be dropped as Social Security was dropped. Just looking at the evidence, I'd actually say we are in worse shape than in 2000. No one can claim we are making progress toward a conservtive agenda unless he is a total fool.
A non vote, or a non Republican vote will be the same as voting for the RATS, because that is the result of that.
Bullseye!
