KYW-TV Philadelphia is running a poll through the afternoon regarding the posting by Geno's Steaks in South Philly of a sign asking patrons to place their orders in English only. The owners state that their parents had to learn the language when they first came here from Italy and they think it would help all those newly arrived to do the same. Of course, some leftwing 'rat councilman has made an issue of the sign, insisting that it is "discriminatory". The poll is midway down the page at CBS3.COM....
He also needs a sign forbidding the substitution of Swiss Cheese.
Up to 88% yes.
So, does the coucilman have problems with store owners who post signs stating "no shirt, no shoes, no service"? I would definitely patronize a store that posted, "no shirt, no shoes, no English, no service".
"I say, Geno old boy, tea and crumpets and a copy of the Times if you please ol' chap."
Mi queso es su queso...............
Ping!
Is "Gimmee a steak wit" English? You will know what I'm talking about if you ever went to Gino's or Pat's.
Do you agree with Geno's asking customers to order only in English?
yes 88%
no 12&
It is called assimilation.
If it is a private business, he should be allowed to set any policy he wishes.
If the store is part of a public corporation, the rules could be different.
Would anyone run such a poll if some snobby French restaurant insisted that all orders be placed in French?
Of course, the story's been making the news for at least 2 weeks now. Saw Fox today reporting on it. Way past the news curve.
I would ask that lib councilman why he thinks it's any of his concern what sign a private businessman puts up.
Results after my vote:
88% = English Only.
12% = Press "2" for Spanish.
Send in the brigade.
I think this should be brought to a head. I would think that there are lawyers out there willing to work pro bono to take this to the Supreme Court.
Bring the fight on. Why should an establishment be required to provide bilingual workers?
Really?
I heard on the radio this morning that some hispanic outfit back there was sending people to Geno's today - to place orders in Spanish, with the intent of follow on legal action.
Have you ever been in a French restaurant?
Swiss cheese????? Sacrilege! I'm a Jim's Steaks girl anyway.
Why could/should they be different?
