Thanks to a lead from FReeper YaYa123, I'm able to report the following:
On today's 'Imus in the Morning', Don Imus called NBC reporter Mike Boettcher on his attempt to spin a bombing in Baghdad as a 'not good' response to the killing of Zarqawi.
Here's how it went down. Boettcher was reporting from Baghdad and had this to say:
"We have the response here now [to the Zarqawi killing] and it is not good. There has been another bombing. Thirteen people are dead in central Baghdad. That is apparently the current reaction from the insurgents to Zarqawi's death."
Imus: "How do we know that's a reaction to that, Mike?"
Boettcher immediately started to back down: "We don't know for sure, Don. You are right."
Imus: "This could be just another bombing. They are trying to blow the place up everyday."
A by-now abject Boettcher: "You are absolutely right."
Bravo, Imus, for calling Boettcher on this. Would Matt Lauer or another NBC host have done the same, or would they have uncritically bought into Boettcher's spin?

Imus in the Morning/NewsBusters ping to Today show list, with hat tip to FReeper YaYa123.
I heard this too. Imus is slime on the war in Iraq but he did step up to the plate on this one and Boettcher sounded like a babbling idiot.
bump!
I don't like Dandy Don, but I'm willing to give credit where due.
I'm thrilled to get a mention. But more important....
How great is it to know MSM blunders, bluffs, spit and spin now get the attention they so richly deserve?
Imus is a D*uche, but every once in a while a blind squirrel finds a nut.
"You Dropped a Bomb on Me"
TGB
It was a logical question. Reporters aren't used to facing logic...........
boetcherr had a sad face on and for a good 15 minutes he and the newslady at the MSNBC studios(melissa something) went into a liberal democrat spin machine mode discussing everything from how the insurgents have become technologically savvy to how bad life is in Baghdad, etc.etc..
"Would Matt Lauer or another NBC host have done the same,..."
Oh hell no.
Zarqawi (spelling improvement)
Imus asked David Gregory "how soon will the "liberal media" blame Karl Rove for causing Zarqawi's death in order to boost the President's approval rating"?
Kudos to Imus.
Now that Rick Kaplan is outta there - Imus has no need to shill for him. Not that he didnt believe half of what he says, however.
"Imus asked David Gregory "how soon will the "liberal media" blame Karl Rove for causing Zarqawi's death in order to boost the President's approval rating"?
Yep, that Karl is quite a creative rascal. Just wait till he pulls UBL out the hat in October, about two weeks before the mid-term elections. Pelosi will collapse with a case of the vapors and her face-lift will and droop down to her knees.
"I heard this too. Imus is slime on the war in Iraq but he did step up to the plate on this one and Boettcher sounded like a babbling idiot."
I thought all reporters were babbling idiots.
Imus is a slimeball, but, he managed to get this one right.
I only saw this news a little while ago and wondered what the MSM spin on this great news would be. Guess I didn't have to wait to long.
Hats off to our brave men and women in uniform!
Happy to hear this from Imus. Thanks YaYa!
I wonder, tho, how many other reporters will spin that bombing, and other bombings, that way and get away with it.
The press --- one of our worst enemies.
