WASHINGTON - Public opinion polls, as well as inside-the-Beltway punditry, suggest that Sen. Hillary Clinton is the front-runner for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
A Gallup Poll in February found that 39 percent of self-described Democrats and Democratic leaners would be most likely to support Clinton for the 2008 nomination. The next closest Democrat was 2004 nominee Sen. John Kerry with 15 percent.
But recent interviews with dozens of active Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire, the states that hold the first caucus and primary of 2008, reveal that many party members who vote in those early contests dont want Clinton as their nominee.
These politically active Democrats voice a sense of resignation, verging on fatalism, about a Clinton run for the nomination.
I hope she wont run, and I dont know whether Id support her, said Jean Lloyd-Jones, a veteran Democrat from Iowa City, Iowa who was the partys unsuccessful Senate nominee in 1992.
During the 1992 campaign Lloyd-Jones spent a day and half with Bill and Hillary Clinton and Al and Tipper Gore in Iowa on their now-famous bus tour.
Hope she stays in the Senate
I think she should stay in the Senate a bit longer, said Lloyd-Jones, who chipped in $1,000 to Clintons 2006 Senate re-election fund. I dont think this is the time for her to run (for president). I dont quite understand why she is such a polarizing figure, but she is.

Watch out for Clinton/Obama 08.
Like she sucks the life force out of anyone around:
scary
Clinton and Obama on the same ticket? We shall see, we shall see.
What she really needs is batteries for her own devices.
Yep! But she still "does not recall" when asked a pointed question.
I want to see her in a tank with a helmet on before I make my decision.
Not only will she run but she will be the next President.
Well, Jack, you tell me. Who hired Craig Livingstone to commit hundreds of felonies in the WH basement? Cat got your tongue? I can't prove it was Hillary, but she had motive and opportunity - which is more than you can say for anyone who was not in the Clinton WH. It happened on Bill's watch, so he should have been held responsible for it. But everyone in the Clinton White House is tarnished by suspicion that they hired Craig Livingstone.Let's suppose, Heaven forefend, that Hillary were to win. If you were a Republican working in the Bush Administration, don't you think you would demand that the FBI destroy its dossier on you as the only way to be sure that Hillary couldn't get her hooks on it?
And lest we forget, the "vast right wing conspiracy" to tell the truth about Bill Clinton. If Mrs. Bush were to accuse everyone who opposed George W. Bush of being in a "conspiracy," would that make you hope that she got elected president?
Then there is the Cattle Futures money laundering scam.
Then there is Travelgate and the persecution of Billy Dale.
Democrats have no imagination at all when it comes to understanding people who are not Democrats.
Nope, she will take someone Souther and with experiance. Warner probably
Actually, except for Monica, every single scandle was really Hillary's not Bill's at all. She was the Rose lawfirm, travelgate, Whatewater, stealing white house property, Vince whats his name. The FBI files. I was all her.
I hope she runs! I hope she wins the D nomination. And if the R's nominate a RINO or Jeb, I might hope she wins the whole shebang!
If we are going to go down the road of Socialism I would prefer a Donkey as the tourguide.
We'll be out of Iraq by then anyway.
Capt, I saw an horrific shark feeding frenzy as an NROTC Middie in USS Iowa (3rd Division) in 1953, between Gitmo and Jamaica, on a really stultifying summer afternoon.
It was organized and executed for a gaggle of us bored Midshipmen (during a protracted ship towing exercise) aft of Turret Three on the starboard side by a seasoned BN1.
(The previously caught shark was tossed over the side with obviously torn tissue about the mouth.)
The frenzied feeding orgy was not a pretty sight! Nor, shall I ever forget it.
No wonder here is a Democrat that looses elections in flyover country. He just doesn't have a clue.
Remember the Willy Horton ads during the "88 elections? The Swiftboat ads in "04. Hillary and Bill have more grist for those kinds of ads than any candidate I can think of. The Clintons have more skeletons in the closet than a med school. I honestly don't understand the fear about this woman's potential candidacy. I think she is one of the worst of the worst. At least Billy Boy had some charm (even if the phoney charm of a sociopath). She has all the charm of a boa constrictor. Her preachy, whiney voice wouldn't inspire a man with a full gizzard to take a cr@p. She might win over in some 3d world or European rathole, but I think her baggage and unlikability make her candidacy unlikely. I believe the dems are going to start distancing themselves from this hag.
