When you consider that Minuteman-endorsed Griffith, the independent candidate, received almost 4% of the vote, you could say that the conservative [House bill] view of immigration received more than 50% of the vote.
The Democrat spin:
"In 2004, Busby lost the CA-50 by 22.0%. Today, it looks like she will lose by around 4.5%. And that was with the NRCC spending $4.5M on the race. If Republicans want to spin losing 18 points after spending $4.5M of committee money as a good thing, go for it."
That's an absurd comparison, since Cunningham was unaffected by scandal in 2004, and besides Busby and the liberals spent a small fraction of the time, money and effort in 2004 that they spent this time. Busby at 44.5% is around the same as what Kerry did in the district in 2004; if congressional Democrats can't do substantially better than Kerry, they won't come close to winning the House this November (since they won't win all of the 45%-50% Bush districts held by Republicans, they need to win at least a dozen *additional* 51%+ Bush districts, and few think the Democrats can win the House without winning several 58%+ Bush districts (such as those held by Hostettler, Sodrel, Geoff Davis, Taylor, Sherwood, etc.).
"I think the November election is going to be ugly. Despite all the money, the nationwide campaign support, and all candidates(R) dropping out of the primary and not campaigning (except Hauf who only got 2% of the vote in the Special Election), Bilbray got only 55% or so of the Republican vote. That's not real strong support, considering."
And yet they all seemed to get together to vote for the republican in the "general election". That's how it should be. Primary people if you don't like them, and then remember "Speaker Pelosi" when you vote in the general election.
Now, with the Lt gov position, he can strut his stuff, show the voters his talents, and then who knows...in four years!
Stuff of dreams
"What will matter most is whether the GOP get out the vote or if they stay home because of disolution over Arnold. I think once they got a look at Angelides, they'll vote but folks are fickle."
Hee hee-- good to know you won't need to self-ban!
Congratulations! That you were unopposed speaks volumes.
Take care not to fall in love with it.
Whew!
I'm glad Bilbray won. Although the margin of victory was closer than it should have been.
Still the storm clouds forecasted for November are aren't as bad as previously thought.
Well, we did it folks -- this is about as perfect of an election for us conservatives in California as ever.
Watching Meathead get roasted was priceless. To make this victory complete, we need to get out the vote in November and nuke Garamendi and Angelides. Even Arnold is better than the alternative *shudder*.
Have a great day everyone! I know I'll have a slight bounce to my step!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! It couldn't have happened to a nicer CA County Supervisor!!!

Anybody think we might even pick up the AG seat in CA with loony Jerry Brown winning the Dem nomination? The whole Democrat ticket is pretty nutty when you look at them together.

(does happy dance)
Well here's one "genius's" take on it:
I believe our government has been overthrown by Bush and his co-horts via diebold. We will not see democrats taking back Congress in November, despite all of the usual signs that curiously were historically accurate, until diebold.
Denial is not a river in Egypt.
Able gets to do the job he was elected to do.
Now it's time to let the CAGOP know we're watching how well it supports its down-ticket candidates.
Hopefully, if more than 27% show up to vote. 27% is disgusting.. with that turnout you get the government you deserve. The people of Iraq practically walked across hot coals to vote at a rate of 73%.
