Bush is the Next Reagan
Jun 4, 2006
Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal
The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.
-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will
-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't
They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't
-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did
They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will
They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't
They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be
-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are
They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be
-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't
They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't
-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was
They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be
-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did
They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will
The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.
And whether you call what Bush is doing 'amnesty' or not, it is not the same thing as Reagan did. Wholesale, no strings attached amnesty.
And NONE of that negates the fact that the same people who hate Bush for his immigration pollicy deify Reagan, whose policy was worse.
Sorry.......but it's amusing to those of us who think logically.
*grin* Just trying to be non-confrontational...
Why can't we all get along:)
"Reagan was a great, but flawed man. Why can people accept that. Dubya is the same".
Bush has the opportunity to correct his flaws (especially before he brings down the GOP in mid-term elections. Reagans time has passed.
You aren't trying to educate, you are just about bashing Bush.
No, let's "deflate" him down to your new, redefined level of "greatness". /sarcasm
because some people seem not to know what loyalty is, they seem to turn at the drop of a dime, they short change him at every turn. They don't look at the big picture, they only want to see one pixel and dwell on it.
I agree his immigration plan is horrible and hopefully he'll fix it, but I will not abandon the guys and gals in Iraq by giving the Dems the Congress. I will not allow them to control who gets on the courts...
If the same cast of Pubbies had a Dem president, they would be more parsimonious. Trust me. The sad thing, is those willing to endure the rather awful and degrading hoops of running for office, particularly if not independently wealthy, tend to be a rather skewed lot, and all too often, have that lean and hungry look.
I was not only an adult, through both of Reagan's presidential terms, but worked VERY hard to get him elected. Unlike many here, I actually remember the factual history of that time period.
"you think what you like, that does make it so. Your opinion is just that"
Of course. I am offering what I believe to be a reasoned opinion. I disagree with you, and as I posted previously, a president does not become great by recognizing a problem exists.
The great ones, Washington, Lincoln, Reagan became great by actually solving a problem unambiguously.
The Iraq and Afghanistan endeavors will fail when the US taxpayers stop sending money and return to their pre-GWB state of dysfunction. Again....my opinion only.
"Check out RealClearPolitics average at 36.6%"
Quite frankly, I would not be happy about a 36.6% polling number either.
You wonder why some of us (like me) give you such grief over that goofball, Alan Keyes?
Because you refuse, absolutely refuse, to give Bush any credit, for anything. He can't do anything right.
Only the manic-depressive, reparations-favoring, daughter-despising Alan Keyes can right the wrongs in this country.
Your credibility on matters political continues to decline based on posts like your last one.
The Bush team's concept of loyalty is the kind that leads to insulated, out-of-touch leadership.
Synchophants and yes-men poison policy.
I agree; completely! :-)
The lunatic left is in fantasy land. Here's the truth: If it were up to Democrats, the USSR and the Cold War, with mutually assured nuclear destruction, would still exist. If it were up to Democrats, Saddam Hussein would still be in power commiting mass murder and torture, and providing training grounds and weapons to terrorists. If it were up to Democrats, the United States would been attacked several more times since 9/11/01, and hundreds of thousands of Americans would have been killed by biological, chemical and/or nuclear devices. If it were up to Democrats, we would have competely socialist medicine and people would be waiting months for surgery. Democrats want abortion on demand, recognition of gay marriages, higher taxes, and socialism. They have learned absolutely nothing from the utter and complete failure of the Evil Empire (USSR). The Democrat Party is the Jackass Party.
You are judging by what you THINK might happen..wow, do you walk on water too???? Bet alot of people, probably your relatives thought that about post war Germany and Japan, thank goodness a majority didn't listen then and pray to the good Lord, they won't now.
Those 'Synchophants and yes-men' are kicking AQ's a$$. I'll keep with the current team ty.
