Bush is the Next Reagan

Jun 4, 2006

Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal

The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.

-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will

-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't

They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't

-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did

They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will

They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't

They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be

-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did

They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will

-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are

They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be

-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did

They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will

-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't

They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't

-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was

They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be

-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did

They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will

The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.

Rummy and Franks did a damn good job in Afganistan and Iraq. They beat the hell out of the Taliban and Saddam, but were not quite ready for the follow up. The point is though, that there is no way in He!! they can beat us unless we surrender. I for one out right refuse.

The core inflation rate is about 2%. It is going to increase to 3% this year, I suspect. The genie is getting close to getting out of the bottle. It is grand that petroleum prices are less important to the economy than they were in the 1970's. If they were, we would really be in the soup. The problem is, is that energy prices factor into the prices of so many other goods over time - but less so now, it this information age economy than before. And so it goes.

I don't want to gag you, just educate you.

If you asking me If I would have disagreed with some of Reagans policies, such as amnesty, the answer is yes.

I loved Reagan, but he wasn't perfect, I mentioned earlier that he signed the bill that has been a major cause of this immigration nonsense.....a real amnesty, genuine article.....do you still like him knowing he hurt your one policy so much?

I do.

Don't tell me what Shinseki wanted (or John McCain for that matter). What did General Tommy Franks want?

And was Wallace in command, and President Bush himself, countered that command and said 'rush to Baghdad,' or were there differing opinions given in the military chain of command?

I am curious as to your disregard of General Tommy Franks and the generals in the field, and why you believe that Donald Rumsfeld, in direct contradiction to President Bush's consistent yielding to military commanders, got his way. (Powell had nothing to do with anything as Secretary of State, so his opinion is no more valid than any other retired military man, who were saying all sorts of opposing things about what was going on).

You have to do a lot of contorting to make Iraq a failed military operation..........unless, of course, your source is CNN.

Oh.......btw, I've always hated kool aid, but I do so laugh at anyone who uses that silly little insult on this forum. I'm tempted to ask if you are more than five years old.....

Oh pullllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze............

Stop making out as though Reagan was something he was not! He was a great president; however, he was NOT the demi-god that you are making him out to be. What "great vision" did Reagan have?

He had three, THREE, "visions" or things he wanted to accomplish and stuck to them. And when he was faced with something outside of that, he was not very good. Turning tail , when our Marines were hit in Lebanon, was pretty stupid and led to even more "hits" by Islamonazi terrorists.

Oh yea...tax cuts, 2 conservative Supreme Court Justices, personally campaigned and helped increase the Senate by 5 seats in a off year which isn't supposed to happen...Talent, DeMint, Coleman, Ensign, Sununu. Sorry if if my memory didn't serve me exact but think it's pretty close...and President Bush worked hard for each of them. The unemployment number is presently at 4.6%. I feel these are some biggies but, yea I know...the WAR...guess that offsets all the good in your eyes. Not in mine when we haven't been hit again since 911 in OUR COUNTRY...any credit there? Giv'em a little credit for working hard every day to protect us instead of having steak dinners for Hollywood everynight...that would be so much more fun.

I think it's time you changed your FReeper name.

People normally assume identities of people they admire, or use handles that are personal in some other way.

You need a refresher course in recent American history!

To claim that President Bush is an LBJ, is patently ridiculous and in spades!

Oh, come on, EV. The only reason those of us who admire Bush even bring up Reagan, is that those of you who despise President Bush lift Reagan up as a god, and beat President Bush over the head with the idol you've made.

It's absurd.

Every single one of us (other than the young ones) who admire and respect President Bush, also admired and respected President Reagan.

But we remember things historically accurately, and not through your rosy, foggy glasses of perfection.

When all is said and done, President Bush will have done as much or more for conservativism as Reagan, and some day, if you haven't gone off the deep end of sanity because of your unchecked anger...........you'll admit that too.

Im afraid you will see how his policies have divided this party. Reagan united the base. Bush's policies has divided the base.

I have to jump in at THIS post.
I quit politics altogether over some of Reagan's policies.
I also find it amusing that you would end your post championing Reagan with.....

SECURE THE BORDERS. BUILD A WALL>

One word .......... AMNESTY

My "one policy"? I listed a long litany of grievances besides immigration. Did you somehow miss that?

I have no illusions about Reagan. He was what he was.

As to will, had this been Reagan, or Clinton, our troops would be out by now, and Iraq would be in complete and total chaos.

It's a shame some folks feel it's necessary to run down one conservative in an attempt to build up another's credentials. I guess the "11th Commandment" only gets invoked when it works in your favor, huh?

I agree and this has a far greater ideology with Communism you could argue the average man in the street in Communist countries did not agree with their leaders.

With the WOT these are fanatics and they follow their leaders both secular and religious to an extent that has not been seen since the crusades.

IMHO to this a threat to the entire western world and everything it stands for far more than Communism ever was.

Takes about ten years. Just wait...

LOL!! Economic ignoramuses are an embarrassment on FR, and you seem to be one of the biggest.

You're telling me that LBJ's war spending resulted in Carter's inflation?

Did you know that there was no deficit during the 70s?

The inflation of the 70s was due to the quadrupling of the price of a barrel of oil. Period.

There has been almost no inflation since Reagan wrung it out of the economy in the 80s, despite record deficits in almost every single year for the last 20.

Trying to conjure up some kind of boogeyman that will be left by Bush is nothing but hysteria.

Reagan was a great, but flawed man. Why can people accept that. Dubya is the same.
