Bush is the Next Reagan
Jun 4, 2006
Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal
The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.
-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will
-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't
They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't
-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did
They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will
They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't
They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be
-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are
They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be
-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't
They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't
-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was
They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be
-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did
They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will
The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.
The most thoughtful (and objective) comment posted do date.
Yeah, right.
A LOT of people are criticizing the first President Bush for "cutting his losses" and not going all the way to Baghdad...and DO say, that perhaps if we had, 9/11 might not have happened.
Also, since Reagan DID pull out, we will never know, will we??
See, you can build Reagan up as this superhuman POTUS, because he didn't have a 9/11 to contend with..and you can hypothesize all day long, and say 'what ifs'...
That is a lib trick and I won't play that game.
bin Laden was a nobody in the early 1980's. He got his panties in a bunch when GHWB stationed troops in Saudi Arabia prior to kicking Saddam out of Kuwait. Blaming Reagan even in part for OBL's theory that we won't fight is quite a reach.
It is ironic though that Reagan, who did not do very well in the Middle East, is compared favorably to GWB who at least, as did his father, fight Saddam and other radicals.
I'm sorry that you have become so bitter, EV. I remember when you were a nice guy.
One little "voice of reason"...as Rush would say...gets it among all of the hate mongers.
When all is said and done, Bush will have played a better game...........and that's where it counts.
Oh, no???
Haven't you heard the "culture of corruption" echoing from coast to coast...and the screams for hearings on almost every intelligence program we have??
Well...you will, the closer to the election we get..and trust me, if the dems win in NOV...Bush won't have ONE MINUTE of the next 2 years, where he ISN'T preparing for an impeachment hearing..or getting paperwork ready for others in his administration have hearings...
Also...Have you heard of Scooter Libby??
The left's attacks against Bush are straight out of the same playbook they used against Reagan. Parallels can defiantly be drawn between the cold war and the war on terror, with liberals being on the wrong side of both wars.
On the other hand, Bush does not have the charisma that Reagan had.
You don't get the relevancy of how foolish it is to judge men by the standard set by other men instead of the standards set by the Lord? You don't understand that the particular verse I mentioned is addressing that very foolishness? Well, okay, then.
I'm sorry that you have become so bitter, EV. I remember when you were a nice guy.
I'm still a nice guy, friend.
But when it comes to the policies that will affect the future of liberty in this country for my kids and grandkids, I don't happen to believe that feel-good syncophancy is the way to go.
gag me
Well, I did. :)
Coolidge is under appreciated. His stock is slowly going up.
It isn't "my theory", even though I agree with it...
I have read quite a few articles about how Bin Ladin used even our history in VIETNAM, to realize his dream of taking down the USA...
So don't tell me that just because he hadn't attacked the USA back in the early eighties, that he wasn't planning..
Also, the first WTC bombing was in EARLY 90's..right?
If he hadn't supported RINOs over conservatives at every turn, deepened government control over the schools, gutted the First Amendment with CFR, refused to enforce the laws against hiring illegal aliens, refused to close the border, spent taxpayer's money like a drunken sailor on steroids, exercised a veto once in awhile, treated with the terrorist Abu Mazen, forced Israelis to give up land to Palestinian terrorists, or even exercised his executive power to save Terri Schiavo from an out-of-control local judge, maybe I would agree with you.
I all ready think that President Bush has a great vision and is one of the top 3 Presidents this country has ever or will ever have!!!
Then why us he hovering around 29%. Reagan NEVER HAD THSOE LOW NUMBERS.
*shaking my head*
That's like handing Hillary a second vote to add to her own.
You're still doing the old revisionist dance.
