Snow: Flow of illegals not an 'invasion'

Spokesman says Article 4 of Constitution doesn't apply to border issue

Saying Mexico is "not the enemy," presidential press secretary Tony Snow today rejected the characterization of the constant flow of illegal aliens over the U.S. border as an "invasion."

At today's White House press briefing, WND asked the spokesman: "Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says, 'The United States shall guarantee to every state in the Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them from foreign invasion.' My question is, does the president believe this foreign invasion means only armed invasion, or doesn't this also mean the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants?"

Responded Snow: "I think what you are doing is you're attaching a martial connotation to something that does not have martial consequences. …

"What the president has said – if you were talking about an invasion, he's made it clear that Mexico is not the enemy."

WND also asked Snow about a lawsuit by war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both of his arms in Iraq. Damon has sued Michael Moore for using clips without his permission in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to give the false impression that he opposed the war.

"I didn't lose my arms over there to come back and be used as ammunition against my commander in chief," Damon was quoted as saying.

"If he is asked," queried WND, "will this commander in chief be willing to testify in court on behalf of this double amputee sergeant?"

Snow called it a "hypothetical question"

"Please don't put me in the position of trying to answer to a lawsuit between somebody who served his country and Michael Moore," Snow said. "We'll let them deal with it."

well- they are truly what makes the world go round..... but they also bend you til it hurts.....

The other day- I was upset with my son... he screwed up...(which he seldom does..) but he did it for 4 days in a row...

so I refused to take him to football practice.. this means the world to him..well- the alarm clock went off..

every fiber- every cell in my body wanted to get him up and take him....

All morning I was a wreck..

when he woke up- I was headed to work- I said, "I am mad at you." I told him how much it hurt me inside, to not take him to practice...

I said, "I WANT to supprt you! I want to GIVE you the world! Your every dream! I am so angry with you that you make me discipline you! You MAKE me take things from you. I know you may think this is a thrill for me, but it actually hurts me!"

I about flipped! This is a 17 year old- football, track, lead singer in a band kid...

Come on Snow, be honest. Mexico has become an enemy nation. And yes, this country is being invaded. We are not talking about a dozen illegal aliens (albeit they could also do serious damage) but millions. That is an invasion.

You are entitled to your opinion, but there is no hysterical reaction at all. Tony is just sittin' pretty up there in D.C with all the other folks being protected in their plastic bubbles. It is an invasion of illegals that is totally being allowed by those in our country who are sworn to uphold the law, on all levels. These people break the law by coming here illegally. End of story. We have seen such an increase in violent crimes, and they are mostly against women and children, so it is not surprising that it is men who think we are just hysterical reactionaries. Snow is technically right. It is NOT an invasion by a government of another country and that's what the framers were talking about. Use a different word. The problem is still there though.

Vision, you are calling our President names instead of discussing his policies. You engage me in personal attacks instead of debating. End even post 271 where you do use some (sarcastic) facts you get some wrong.

If you look up federal prison statistics you would find that hispanics are incarcerated at a rate about 1/3 that of blacks.

Illegal immigration is a problem. We haven't taken it seriously and it has built up. I favor the wall. I favor criminalizing illegal aliens. I favor arresting people who emply illegals.

But along with this we will need a massive increase in legal immigration and people who. This is a litmus test - if people object to new legal immigration then they were really weren't concerned about illegals they just don't like brown people. Also, those of you who want to blame every ill in society on illegals sound like you want a scape goat, not a solution. And you seem to have chosen our President as that scape goat. It hurts our country to scape goat the President instead of working on the issues.
