Snow: Flow of illegals not an 'invasion'

Spokesman says Article 4 of Constitution doesn't apply to border issue

Saying Mexico is "not the enemy," presidential press secretary Tony Snow today rejected the characterization of the constant flow of illegal aliens over the U.S. border as an "invasion."

At today's White House press briefing, WND asked the spokesman: "Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution says, 'The United States shall guarantee to every state in the Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them from foreign invasion.' My question is, does the president believe this foreign invasion means only armed invasion, or doesn't this also mean the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants?"

Responded Snow: "I think what you are doing is you're attaching a martial connotation to something that does not have martial consequences. …

"What the president has said – if you were talking about an invasion, he's made it clear that Mexico is not the enemy."

WND also asked Snow about a lawsuit by war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both of his arms in Iraq. Damon has sued Michael Moore for using clips without his permission in "Fahrenheit 9/11" to give the false impression that he opposed the war.

"I didn't lose my arms over there to come back and be used as ammunition against my commander in chief," Damon was quoted as saying.

"If he is asked," queried WND, "will this commander in chief be willing to testify in court on behalf of this double amputee sergeant?"

Snow called it a "hypothetical question"

"Please don't put me in the position of trying to answer to a lawsuit between somebody who served his country and Michael Moore," Snow said. "We'll let them deal with it."

He has probably lost 2/3 of his previous audience anyways, and he wasn't one of the highly rated talk show hosts to begin with.

Last year (IIRC), he was tied for 13th place with some obscure radio host and Al Franken.

Tony is right. Someone entering the country illegally or overstaying their Visa is NOT really an "invasion".

You're right Tony. We are so silly to think of it as an invasion. We made a mistake and are just dern fools for not swallowing the spin, as you have. Besides, all they really want to do is to have a friendly cup of tea with us...

No, all they really want to do is have a job to make a living.

Tony is right. Those who define it as an "invasion" are over-reactionary hysterics.

I kind of liked Tony Snow until he became GWB and Rove's talking hand puppet.

Tony sold his soul to Bush. I used to respect him. (Tony)

To hell with your "respect".
Tony is right on this.

If we go by your definition, I say it becomes an invasion when the invitees become hostile, as millions of them have.

Oh, please. What a drama queen.

11 million to 28 million have flooded in illegally during the last two decades. They aren't tourists.

Snow is technically right. It is NOT an invasion by a government of another country and that's what the framers were talking about.

Article IV., Section.4. of the United States Constitution says: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion...

The Constitution just says "Invasion", not "Invasion by a government of another country", "Invasion by a foreign country", etc. If the framers meant "Invasion by a foreign power/government/country", they would have stated so. I believe that this illegal alien "tidal wave" can indeed be legally termed an "Invasion" according to our constitution.

They're not an "invasion" either. They've come here looking jobs and a better life.

I can hardly believe how infantile the anti-immigration forces on this board have become...illegals are "criminals" equal to murders, and now they are an "invasion" worse than terrorists.....LOL

>>Reconquesta is an invasion<<

That is only a small portion of what is happening - the vast majority are economic refugees

Clinton's legacy is blow jobs, looks like Bush plans for a legacy on Snow jobs.

I have long been disappointed in Bush on illegal invasion, and now I am disappointed in Snow.

Apparently you prefer to ignore facts, such as the increases in 3rd-world diseases or the numbers of crimes. They aren't all just coming to pick lettuce. 27% of the Federal prisoners are illegals. In California, the number increases to nearly 50%.

But, you are too blinded by your agenda to let the flow of illegals erose the national sovereignty concern you. Just out of curiosity, how many illegals do you have hired?

One article, if you care to look at facts:

Almost 1 million sex crimes by illegal immigrants in U.S.

The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants in the United States Copyright © 2006, Violent Crimes Institute, www.drdsk.com By Deborah Schurman-Kauflin, Ph.D. Violent Crimes Institute, Atlanta, Georgia Introduction: After conducting a 12 month in-depth study of illegal immigrants who committed sex crimes and murders for the time period of January 1999 through April 2006 , it is clear that the U.S. public faces a dangerous threat from sex predators who cross the U.S. borders illegally. There were 1500 cases analyzed in depth. They included: serial rapes, serial murders, sexual homicides, and child...

They better get their heads right quick on this or divisions of "undocumented tourists" will be in Mexico "for a better life" - no income taxes, no vehicle insurance, no driver's licenses, take what that need with no payment and definitely nobody to interefere with their "tourism" - perhaps set down roots a seaside villa or two.

Let Vincente Fox call the WH.

Let them deal with the Wild Geese if they can. They sure don't want to enforce the laws in the USA:

Senator Pansy Graham on Hannity:

"Oh....It will take two years to start enforcing the laws on employers...."

The law does not apply anymore.

Tony is right. Those who define it as an "invasion" are over-reactionary hysterics.

Those who oppose amnesty for illegals are not "over-reactionary hysterics"; they are patriots who actually believe in our laws being respected and enforced.

No, all they really want to do is have a job to make a living.

Not all of them by a long shot. There is a very sizable criminal element amongst them. There are millions of felons even amongst the ones who are "just working". They stole an American Citizen's valid SSN to obtain employment. That is identity theft and a Federal Felony. Those illegals and other non-citizens who are voting in our elections are also committing a Felony.

As far as getting a job, we are not the world's employment agency. If they want to legally live here and legally work here, then they can wait their turn in line in their own countries with those who choose to respect our laws and wait their turn.
