Maybe Karl will whip one up for tomorrow.

Atlanta's been real uppity lately.

The news today was all hurricanes, all the time. At lunch, my coworker commented that the media wants a devastating hurricane season like I want to win the lottery. They are practically salivating at the prospect of hurricanes.

Words cannot describe the burning hatred I have for the media.

Good grief, the media sure is being ridiculous about this. But, maybe I'm complacent, since I can't imagine being directly hit again. Rita slammed me last year. Weeks of intense work and misery followed. But that was the worst storm to hit our area in a hundred years. I'm not a gambler, but I just don't foresee having to endure another one like that anytime soon. A small one, maybe. Whatever the case, I'm certainly not falling for the insane media hype.

How about a pool, ladies, for first hurricane of the season? Or have I missed the thread where you all started one? :-)

The Bush-Rove Hurricane Generatortm is still charging up to full power. A few more days and Rove will be unleashing Category 5 hurricanes to target every "Chocolate city".

Rush was making fun of this during his show.

It seems like last year we had hurricanes before June 1st and after November 1st. It was simply an abnormal year. This year, I think, will be more normal. Doesn't mean there may not be some bad hurricanes this year - just not the season we saw last year.

There's been nothing like Katrina that we've ever known (not counting the flooding in New Orleans which, IMO, is a separate event from the actual hurricane that was devastating enough for those who got the direct hit). It makes no sense that we'd have another year like that two years in a row.

i'm kind of hoping for florida to be destroyed by a volcano moving in from the caribbean, roaring through jacksonville, and finally settling outside of atlanta and burying it with lava ... or is it not volcano season yet?

While the notion of "..Day 1--we barely squeaked through"...implying that giant atmospheric maelstroms of destruction should have instantly formed today and devastated wide swaths of land is beyond absurd.....on the for real side, this is having a fairly serious impact on folks who "suddenly" cannot renew their homeowners insurance coverage (or see their rates double) because it's no longer being offered in areas that might see larger storm exposure. And of course, with bigger storms, you have bigger areas of vulnerability. So yeah, the headline is silly, but the concern over it is having a real-world impact.

I swear, the weather people are positively SALIVATING about possible death and destruction. They'd manufacture the ultimate storm if they could! It's disgusting.
The local guy starts out the weather by pointing to ANY little swirl of clouds in the ocean and says- ' Uh,oh...what's this..?" then waits a bit and says- ' Oh, it's nothing.' Then he proceeds to say people shouldn't get paranoid or worked up till you have to!!
They're the Doom Patrol- especially re. New Orleans. It's as though they can't WAIT for the K.O. punch that wipes the Gulf Coast clean.
Re. Evacuation- Any place you have to be prepared to run from for half the year- and stay gone weeks at a time- is no more than a temporary city.
It kills me to hear people say 'everyplace has bad weather'. Oh really? When was the last million person evacuation for a snowstorm, or an earthquake? I don't think people in Ohio think of August and September as months in which they are most likely to face losing their homes or lives.
