Position on Immigration Says a lot About One's Patriotism
Sierra Times ^ | 6/1/2006 | Jeff Adams

Posted on 06/01/2006 12:44:31 PM PDT by FerdieMurphy

As the immigration debate continues to roll along, without any apparent give from either side, it has truly been an eye-opening experience. The rhetoric used to distort the truth about what is happening in our country can at times makes one wonder if we can determine what is the truth. But the truth is there to see for anyone who will honestly look.

On the one hand, you have people who want to ‘forgive and forget,’ allowing illegals to stay here and be put on a fast track to citizenship without any real demands on them. Some of these ‘forgivers’ even want to effectively backdate illegals’ future citizenship so they can reap the benefits of Social Security (whether they truly paid into the system or not) from they work they did here illegally.

Much of the argument for a lax attitude towards illegal immigrants is based on either a sympathetic, if naïve, view of illegals, or a claim of needing to fill jobs that otherwise wouldn’t be filled.

On the other hand, there are people who see rapid changes taking place in our society that promote disunity and an attitude of indifference toward the laws of the land. This group believes that assimilation is imperative to avoid problems that we see concerning mass immigration (such as has happened in France, the Netherlands, and other European countries), and issues that arise when there are divided linguistic and cultural traditions within the borders of one country (such as in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Canada to a lesser degree, and even in some African countries where various tribes have been thrown together thanks to colonialism and the random drawing of national borders).

Assimilation cannot take place when the influx of immigrants is so great as to permit a separate culture to thrive within our borders, and not only allows people to not assimilate, but encourages maintaining a thoroughly separate identity, culture, and language.

There comes a time when ultimately a person has to ask themselves if they desire to welcome people to our land who are looking for not only opportunity, but are looking to become ‘one of us.’ The answer should clearly be that we should welcome those who see the good in our land and want to become a part of it, adding to the mix but ultimately conforming to the dominant language and culture.

We should not welcome those who want to come here to take advantage of what we have, but do not wish to become one of us. We should especially not fling open the doors and say, “Anyone and everyone can come in, no waiting required, and no demands will be put on you. Take what you want, and don’t worry about those supposedly in line ahead of you or those that already live and work here.”

Patriotism is a love of the land and the people, and a respect for the traditions and values of that land and people. No one can, in any reasonable view of things, call themselves a patriot who embraces giving a pass to those who break into our country, violating our immigration laws, then not only refuse to assimilate, but take advantage of our legal and social systems (often without paying into those systems), and demand even more.

In fact, encouraging the illegal mass migration into America of a people group, supporting the ‘underground’ employment of these people, then wanting to declare them ‘legal,’ and further open the door to more from the same people group, thus threatening our culture, social system, laws, and very existence, can only be called one thing: treason.

The U.S. Senate has made it clear that they aren’t interested in the will or desires of the American people. They are basically violating their oaths of office, committing treason, and attempting to ‘paper over it’ with a law that they have no intention of enforcing except for the part that allows more people to flood our country.

President Bush is in a position to do even more to defend this country than the Senate, and he is acting in even more treasonous ways than the Senate.

The only hope the citizens of this country have is that the House of Representatives will make a stand, or that state, county, and local officials will act on their behalf.

The evidence so far is not promising.

What is truly pathetic is that the overwhelming majority of citizens will be very unhappy with their elected officials, but when November comes around, over 80% of the people in office who have refused to do the will of the people will win re-election.

If someone worked for me and refused to handle their work in the manner I wanted, I’d fire them. Why aren’t we firing our politicians?

Patriots know how to stand up for their land and their people. Patriots should vote the treasonous rabble out of office come November. To borrow from GWB, either you are with us or against us (the ‘us’ being the American citizens and legal aliens). Patriots are for law and order, and the rights of citizens over the desires of a horde of law-breakers. Traitors are willing to see our country overrun by outsiders who want what we have, but don’t want to be part of us. Justify it all you want, but anyone who is a citizen of this country and is defending illegals is betraying their country.

I have only anecdotal evidence, but I live in an area with a very high proportion of first generation immigrants and have come to personally know a sizable number of them AND their children.

My conclusion is that the immigrant who loves, is willing to commit to and become a part of my great nation are very much in the minority. There are those that do, but not many. Most eagerly buy into the leftist view that America and Americans suck, and although the jobs and shopping are alright everything else isn't nearly as good as it is 'back home'.

In fact, we are letting in FAR too many who's dislike for America is palpable.

Those Americans who get all teary eyed at the thought of the teeming masses arriving on our shores longing to become Americans are being sold a bill of goods, big time.

"What's Patriotic about wanting to split up the Republican party and hand everything over to the commie democRATs?"

Sounds like a good question for Bush, don't you think? I'm not sure that he's got a valid and forgivable reason, but I'd rather hear the answer to that than to hear him try, yet again, to convince me that amnesty isn't amnesty.

"Is he building a fence or wall, NO." Then that must be a mirage down on the So. California border. "Is he beefing up the border patrol? No." ......WRONG! "He is sending guard units down to train and make a show" Tell that to the NG that will be down there in the sweltering heat building and putting up the barriers etc.,

Yes, you must be seeing mirage. The only fence that is going up right now is the one the minute men are building, or are you refering to that saggy, hole ridden piece of barbed wire that passes for a fence down by CA?

He is NOT beefing up the border patrol. He promised 2000 and added 210.

He is sending the guard down to do regular training. They will NOT be building barriers, no where in any speech did Bush say he was building barriers! It has been made plain that the guard is only going to be doing "administrative" duties to "free" the border patrol up to actually catch the criminal pieces of sh** that sneak across our border.

All in all the legislation that Bush proposes is the same as the shamefull amnesty bill the senate passed.

Only a total idiot would think allowing anyone who wants to come here is a good idea, only a total idiot would support allowing 12 to 20 million lawbreakers, some of them serious felons, to be allowed to become citizens.

The article is right, anyone who supports this amensty definately does not have American interest at heart but their own selfish interest, therefore this is teason. Not upholding that law of the land when you have been sworn into office to do so is treason and it can't be viewed any other way if looked at honestly.

Nothing.

I find it odd how some freepers are apparently willing to elect as President an unnamed, non-vetted, imaginary third party candidate who probably never got himself elected county dog catcher, rather than run out the RINOs and "conservatise" the GOP.

I can only come to one conclusion about all these whiners wanting to split the R party and form a 3rd party.

Obviously they all stayed home and none of them went to the polls last time and voted for any of the Senators or Congresscritters because none are willing to take the responsibility that their votes helped put them in DC and re-elected GWB.

Must have been the democRATs that voted for the Republicans we have there now.

Yeah, there is an argument that is going to get a lot of people to agree with your ideas. This regression to childhood tempetantrums by the Know Nothings keeps getting funnier and funnier to watch everyday.

Know Nothings?

I suppose that makes you a Know Something.

If a Know Something believes that embracing illegal criminal invasion of this nation is a good thing then I would suggest that you are completely devoid of any common sense!

Further, I've said it before in this forum and to you, that you are incapable of polite discourse on this matter or any issue of importance.

You're beyond sophomoric and in fact may indeed be a mere freshman.

What's patriotic about keeping one's mouth shut and not speaking out about the criminal, illegal invasion of this country? And isn't it indeed treason when our Elite Political Class attempts to ram this garbage down the throats of American citizens?

Those elites are all DemocRATs and too damned many Republicans!

No-ones telling you to keep your mouth shut about the illegal invasion......NO-ONE!

What I will say though is it's dumb and stupid not to realize that your intentions and plans to split the Republican party down the middle is a heads first fall over the cliff into the hands of the commie/democRats which will put the country on the fast track to communism.

As in the post above, Patriotism is a love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it. Political parties make no difference when it comes to this.

If the Republicans no longer represent my views on IMPORTANT issues that affect my back pocket, then I will no longer support them. Social issues come in a very distant second.

I, of course, don't know whether or not you're a American living in Britain, or an ex-Brit living in America; however, in case you haven't noticed all the efforts of our central government appear to have already put this nation on a fast track to communism.

When a nation has only a handful in the congress who have this nation's best interests at heart it is, indeed, a calamatous situation.

What a mess. When America has killer islamic fascists surrounding us, nuclear weapons in the hands of madmen, much of South and Central America in the hands of communist dictators who hate us, we find "elected" representatives in Washington inviting Mexican criminals to live amongst us.

Some of us are pointing out the sheer arrogance on the part of our elected lawmakers to go against what the majority of Americans truly want, while others, like you, state that to do so makes us dumb and stupid.

It would appear you, sir or madam, will not admit the truth about this most important treachery on the part of our government.
