insurgents rule Sunni citadel
Guardian gains rare access to Iraqi town and finds it fully in control of 'mujahideen'
Omer Mahdi in Haditha and Rory Carroll in Baghdad Monday August 22, 2005 The Guardian
The executions are carried out at dawn on Haqlania bridge, the entrance to Haditha. A small crowd usually turns up to watch even though the killings are filmed and made available on DVD in the market the same afternoon. One of last week's victims was a young man in a black tracksuit. Like the others he was left on his belly by the blue iron railings at the bridge's southern end. His severed head rested on his back, facing Baghdad. Children cheered when they heard that the next day's spectacle would be a double bill: two decapitations. A man named Watban and his brother had been found guilty of spying.

As I thought.
We shoulda killed 'em all, burned the town and paved it over as a lesson the rest of the Sunnis.
One of these days someone will study Roman history and figure out to deal with uppity losers.

this lines up with the other thread - the interview of the injured Marines who was saying that "you couldn't tell who were the bad guys" in that town, how they used children as scouts and lookouts.
this is the reality the Marines face, and they damn sure deserve alot more support then the weak-in-the-knees statement by the president yesterday about this.

there is no way to reform a town like this. when the kids are laughing in the town square at people being whipped and beheaded, its beyond hope.

what can we do? with the rules of engagement we have, we would have to send Marines door to door to root this out. we would losee 100s of men. as it is now, look at what is happening with the Marines being cast as war criminals and murderers over the civilian (if that's what they even were) casualties.

In the year 2034, this story could as well be describing Fresno, or perhaps Boise, maybe Corvallis, Yuma, Lincoln; any one of thousands of American cities abandoned by the American political Left and allowed to be overrun by "The Religion Of Peace".
EVERYTHING hinges upon our national security and the attentiveness of our elected legislators to the dire needs of the peop...
Hell, forget the people, it's the very country itself that needs saving; that mass of land that lies within our alleged borders. Save the land and the people will be saved. Abandon the land and the people will either be displaced or forced to engage their own means of security.
These are unsettled and unsettling times. The future holds the possibility for great turmoil and strife, here; even the clash of arms. Blood may yet flow in our streets. We may yet be forced, to a man, to bestir ourselves to the personal engagement of the cause of Freedom; who would to refresh the tree of Liberty with the blood of evil men seek to cut it down.
I have no confidence in Washington D.C. to raise a finger in assistance. They are blind, deaf, and dumb. Inaction overlaid with a façade of busyness is the beginning and end of their agenda. Many words; few results. Great heat; poor light.
We, The People, will have to provide our own light, and produce our own results. If the nation will be saved, it will not be Washington D.C. that saves it; it will be you and I.
Apart from a sweeping shift that results in the actual implementation of Conservative principles of governance, this will be our future.

We can't go in and kill them all. The left and murtha are tying our hands in the matter. They are winning and our soldiers are being wounded and dying because of it. They WANT the terrorist to win.

>Haditha, a farming town of 90,000 people by the Euphrates river, is
an insurgent citadel. That Islamist guerrillas were active in the area was no secret but only now has the extent of their control been revealed.
They are the sole authority, running the town's security, administration and communications Iraq's a hell-hole
half as big as Texas. We've
had a three year war
and the bad guys still
can control an entire town?!
This kind of nonsense
makes me think someone
in charge of this Iraq thing
needs to be replaced!

That is some good background information on Haditha, but unfortunately it's entirely irrelevant to the charges the Marines are facing. Whether or not the town is populated by pacifists or the entire in Laden fan club, the Rules of Engagement remain the same. It's a possible violation of those rules that are the issue. The degree of hostile feelings in the town don't matter.
Why? Because that hostility is everywhere. Haditha is by no means unique. There are lots of towns and neighborhoods of major cities that you could write this same article about. U.S. forces face this kind of thing every time they leave the wire and go on patrol. That's just how it is.

Laugh it up, boys. When the Shia-dominated Iraqi Army comes to visit in a year or so, you'll long for the days of the Marines. It will be a bloodbath.
The Iraqi Sunnis don't seem to understand that they are a 20% minority. Whose percentage of the population is going to go way down in the next few years.

Excuse me?
"Whether or not the town is populated by pacifists or the entire in Laden fan club is irrelvant here" -- Steel Wolf
Irrelivent on this issue, concerning the accusation of killing innocent people, still in the town after evacuation?
Yeah... irrelvant if you don't want to verify that people were A)innocent or B)killed by local thugs as propaganda (3rd times the charm?)
