A preliminary military inquiry found evidence that U.S. Marines killed two dozen Iraqi civilians in an unprovoked attack in November, contradicting the troops account, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.
President George W. Bush said he was troubled by news stories on the November 19 killings of men, women and children in the town of Haditha, and a general at the Pentagon said the incident could complicate the job for the 130,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
Allegations such as this, regardless of how they are borne out by the facts, can have an effect on the ability of U.S. forces to continue to operate, Army Brig. Gen. Carter Ham, deputy director for regional operations for the militarys Joint Staff, told a Pentagon briefing.
I thought that his post was quite clear. He said it was a provocation, not a justification. In other words, if I slapped your face you would be provoked into doing something. Your response may be appropriate(slap me back) or it may not be(whip out a gun and shoot me).
Are these the same sources that had Rove stepping down and donig the Frog March?? These soldiers are innocent.

Posting the specific quote you are making reference to would make it easier on everybody around here.
He did fundraising for the Palestinians and got acquitted.
The prosecutors were miffed. Al Arian will serve I think ten more months and then he's got to lv the U.S.
Before that, worked for the Commerce Dept. and Ron Brown was my boss (before he died). Commerce had an office in Pinellas Cty. But enough about me. Thanks for the body armor.
Nah. There's almost no way it goes to trial before the end of the year. Bush will be long gone by then.
Coulda shoulda woulda...
I'm glad he's President and you're not. No personal offense meant.
Millions of people all think they could do it better, and most of em disagree with each other.
I just disagree. On this, the Pentagon and the Marines are in the driver's seat when it comes to the actual investigation and any legal proceedings.
When it comes to public points of view about it, the Media drives it and now some Media are getting out a different slant on the events, if you've noticed.
The President had to comment something when asked, other than that he is right to stay on the level or plane he's on. He runs too much risk otherwise as there is something very strong in military law and command propriety that he, Rumsfeld, Pace and the others must observe. R & P are observing it, too.
We will never agree.
But then, we almost never do.
Where's the :>) after "Bush...long gone...?"
Ohio don't let their postings cause you to lose your peace. That's all they have are speculations.
Whatever the circumstances with the President and his wife they have handled the pressure of working for America well with dignity, integrity and discretion.
Do you know something the rest of us don't. Bush is scheduled to remain in office until January of 2009.
Bush will be long gone by the time their promotions could be affected.
Great post, ohioWfan. Thanks.
You're taking it to another level. Good luck with that.
Yeah, it's a great deal of work to look at your previous post where you are arguing with someone and you are full of crap. Get off your ass and do your own work.
Hey, these people on here don't pay your bills, and it's good to see you don't let 'em get to you. Something similar to what my pop would tell me.
Thanks for the body armor.
You're very welcome.
why cede everything to the media from the outset? we make the same mistake again and again. get out there and go on offense, get a rebuttal message out there.
and don't tell me about "risk" - there is nothing to lose here anymore, nothing. public support for the iraq war has eroded steadily, there is nothing to lose anymore by hitting back. the hell with it. take the comments from somebody like Murtha, and use them to turn the issue back against the accusers. the same liberals who would argue that some killer like Tookie Williams should get years of due process, wants these Marines convicted in a few weeks, the story wrapped up in a nice little "war crimes" package.
Let me rephrase.
Bush will be COMMANDER IN CHIEF of ALL the armed services until January 2009.
Hey, chill. You've been a good freeper for a long time and I'm just having some fun with you. I think you understand by now that you may have made a mistake posting gossip about the Bush's marriage. No big deal. In my many years here I've posted some stuff that I wish I could take back. It happens.
Regards,
LH
Yep. That's a really reliable source. Right.
