Assembly Bill 2791 would penalize SUV and minivan drivers in California

This bill establishes a program, developed and administered by the Air Resources Board (ARB), to provide discounts of up to $2,500 to buyers of new cars that emit relatively low amounts of greenhouse gases and air pollutants and to impose a surcharge of up $2,500 on buyers on new cars that emit relatively high volumes of these gases and pollutants. . .

Bill George from wedrivecalifornia.com was on the show at 4:00 to discuss the proposed new law.

You folks in California driving your pickup trucks with gun racks: your days are numbered. One little problem with the bill is what happens if more buy the eco-friendly cars than the other kind; he books won't balance

It goes without saying. If they did have to pay, the state would have to give them the money out of our taxes.

Sounds to me like those wanting SUV's will just drive across the border to Nevada to buy them.

There are not that many pickup trucks in CA compared to a lot of other states. Also, what does a gun rack in a vehicle have to do with ecological systems? And since when does CA (or any other government entity) care about balancing the books?

No, it will be like a use tax aka "sales" tax. You pay where you live. If you buy a car in Oregon (no sales tax), and live in California, you still pay the sales tax. You pay it with your registration.

"It goes without saying. If they did have to pay, the state would have to give them the money out of our taxes."

It has been proven time and again.

Perhaps if "WE, THE PEOPLE" start taking these monies out of the "pensions" of our "elected representitives" they might begin to get "religion"........ or at the very least....a FUC*IN clue??

"ILLEGAL ALIENS will be EXEMPT."

That's because illegal aliens are more amenable to oppressive governments and life via government handouts.

No, but Jose and Jorge have 'em in the glovebox of their '63 Impala.

Looked at your profile pg. before posting.
The cars not to my taste, (I like my Jeep), but I see you're the kinda guy who appreciates well-formed curves.

I am actually shocked that this didn't happen 5 years ago. I've been waiting for this one. They increased the emmisions standards and the 'smog' fee each year when you register your vehicle, but they exempted the really old cars which the illegals drive which produce most of the pollution. Which pollutes more: 2005 Cadillac Escalade or a 1970s Oldsmobile?

I agree. In fact the turn signals could conceal SMG's just like the 007 Aston Martin DB5.

Don't worry. More people will buy the granola-fueled cars, and it'll negate whatever perceived environmental benefit the state was hoping for. Nevermind that pickup trucks and SUVs are much cleaner than cars from the 70s and 80s.

You gotta love liberals.

The minute you try to register it in California, they ding you for the ca sales tax in the county you reside and I'm sure they would slap that fine on you, too. You would have to register it in Nevada as well.

They will never ever do this.
Too many libs buy those big SUV's and fail to grasp any hypocrisy.

I see plenty with single drivers and "Vote Dem" stickers on them...as they blast past me in my hybrid.
