War In Iraq: The press is salivating over the prospect of an Iraqi My Lai in the town of Haditha, with ABC trotting out Rep. John Murtha to brand U.S. troops war criminals just in time for Memorial Day.

Appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," and with the matter still under investigation, Murtha, D-Pa., decided it would be sentence first and trial later when he proclaimed Marines responding to an attack in the town of Haditha on Nov. 19 guilty of murder of at least 15 Iraqi civilians.

The incident began as a Marine convoy of Kilo Company, Third Battalion, First Marine Regiment, was passing through Haditha in the Iraqi province of Anbar. A roadside improvised explosive device (IED) went off, killing Lance Cpl. Miguel Terrazas, 20, of El Paso, who was on his second tour of duty.

According to Time magazine, an Iraqi civil rights group claims the Marines then barged into nearby houses, throwing grenades and shooting civilians randomly as they cowered in fear. Murtha believes the Time report. "I will not excuse murder," he said on ABC, "and this is what happened."

But Duncan Hunter, D-Calif., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, who got all the briefings on the matter Murtha got, says the "in cold blood" allegations by Murtha are all wet.

So Murtha's "cold blood" murder was not confirmed by the briefing, according to Duncan Hunter. Why am I not suprised

Not to mention that I understand they have "tapes" of radio communications of the event. And a UAV was overhead. Let the investigation take place. If court martials are in order, let the military do its thing and the American media and politicians should keep their mouths shut.
Courst that won't happen.

That is the way its supposed to be. With the MSM giving kudos to a thorough investigation, and hoping as loyal Americans that the alleged charges are false. But the Kerry generation of Jenjis Khan democrats has led a large swath of our population to hate and despise the military. It's sickening.

From the article:

Lt. Pantano and Marines such as those at Haditha face a death sentence every day in a war with an enemy that obeys no rules. They are heroes, not war criminals. Yet there are some who think their reward for putting their lives on the line for their country and doing their duty to the best of their ability should be a murder charge, just because they don't like the policy that put them there.

There's one thing these men are that many in the media and Congress are not — and it is shown in the Marine motto. Semper fi.

But the terrorists already have their propaganda victory. Al Jazeera can headline: "US Congressman Confirms Marines Guilty of Murder". That's all they need, and Murtha just gave it to them. Nice work once again liberals.

And Murtha KNOWS damn well that is what he did. He is praying for failure and abbetting the enemy.

If you believe in the ends, you're not gonna have as much problem with the means as those who don't believe in the ends. It's that simple.

For all the angst one can conjure over Dresden or Nagasaki, it means nothing to the overall outcome if you agree with that outcome. Same in Korea. Same at My Lai. Same in Iraq. This is not to say that these Marines were not justified. I'm speaking of those who assume differently: they do it because they're trying to invalidate the War itself. Nothing more, nothing less.

that is a reasonable historical perspective. But I assume most support the prosecution of gross malfeasance, if it occurs. I don't think it did, at least not the way its being portrayed.

How strong is Murtha in his district? He better walk on water there - because this sort of politicizing could be very bad for his tenure in the House.

"I will not excuse murder," he said on ABC, "and this is what happened."

Is Murtha the judge and the jury? Is it his place to decide what happened and what will and will not be excused? I thought there were processes in place for such things. I guess I was wrong. Murtha is in charge. He is the new Saddam.

As I recall, John Murtha was a major on a regimental staff in Vietnam. Most of his was tour was spent inside a perimeter. He was not awarded his two Purple Hearts until he decided to go into politics. At that time he applied for them, recalling a helicopter crash he had been in and some other mishap which he attributed to the enemy. Murtha works closely with his brother, Kit, a defense industry lobbyist. Between them they have done well for Kit's clients. I have seen the theory posted on this site that Murtha's bizarre and disgraceful behavior and comments for the last 18 months or so is a ploy. With the Justice Department looking into the sleazy dealings of Murtha, his brother and their client/co-conspirators, Murtha can scream "political retaliation" by the feds when the indictments come down.

It is the military's job to investigate, conduct a hearing and punish the Marines if wrongdoing is found. It's not the job of some lardass, anti-American Congressman with a big mouth. Fat Jack Murtha needs to stick to sniffing the chairs in Nancy Pelosi's office.

Semper Fi is for us as well. We set VERY high standards for our soldiers, sailors, airmen and MARINES. We need to give them the benefit of the doubt when they are in combat. We need to be faithful to THEM, because they earn our trust by risking their lives for us. You may not be part of the "Green Machine," but you certainly can help them out - just by showing a bit of patience and respect. Don't buy in to the "every day is another Vietnam" crap that the M$M is attempting to sell.

I for one, am not worried in the least about this business. Stop giving the other side a club with which to beat us by giving credence to lies, half-truths and omissions. The USMC has a proven record of combat performance second to NONE. They will take care of any "bad actors" because they take the honor of the Corps seriously.
