Pilotless plane took video of town where Iraqis died (Important)

WASHINGTON - Military investigators piecing together what happened in the Iraqi town of Al-Hadithah on Nov. 19, 2005 -- when Marines allegedly killed two dozen civilians -- have access to video shot by a pilotless aircraft that was circling overhead for at least part of that day, military defense attorneys familiar with the case said in interviews.

It is unclear whether the video obtained from that day's flight captured the violence, said the attorneys, who have consulted with Marines who were there. One attorney said investigators have reviewed surveillance footage taken hours after the shootings, which showed the Marines returning to the town to remove the bodies of the Iraqis.

Monday, Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said charges will be issued if the evidence merits it. For now, ``it would be premature for me to judge'' the outcome of the two U.S. military investigations, Pace said on CBS's ``The Early Show.''

When your reading skills develop enough that you can pick up on a joke (see dwgator's response), get back to me.

What will be your view of this incident IF the general facts as alleged in press reports are borne out by the investigation?

That has been answered time and time and time again. Go do your own reading. Not that I expect you will, since you've already decided anyone not being "objective" like you is trying to excuse murder.

Oh, let's see. You accused me of being delusional and saying this story was made up. You asked how anyone could possibly "spin" this story any way other than into the Marines' guilt. You mentioned the three commanders were relieved due to Haditha. Which was very inconveniently shown to be yet another Murtha lie/exaggeration by an AP article I just posted in BN. At least one was relieved for NOTHING TO DO AT ALL WITH HADITHA. And none of the three, according to defense, are being investigated for alleged murder or cover-up.

Not bad for a 12-year old, huh?

I must have missed that link where the Marines said they killed the women and children and the old man in the wheelchair.

Please direct me to the post where this was confirmed.

My take is that Murtha and Co. are a helluva lot more guilty of treason than these grunts are for a "massacre".

Sue the hell out of these lying and spinning left wing agenda pushers in civil courts. Run the suits against the top of the Time Warner Ladder down to the individual lying/spinning pseudo journalists

I like that idea. If someone wants to get a fund going to bring such suits, I would be willing to contribute, as I am sure many Freepers would. Please ping me if you get any info.

"You asked how anyone could possibly "spin" this story any way other than into the Marines' guilt."

No, I didn't. I asked how anyone could spin the facts as reported any differently - while explicitly acknowledging that those facts, as reported, were not established.

"You mentioned the three commanders were relieved due to Haditha."

No, I didn't. I stated that they had been relieved. Which is true. It may well be a pure coincidence that they were relieved after this incident for reasons totally unrelated to this incident. I am typically skeptical of such coincidences, but it is certainly possible.

"And none of the three, according to defense, are being investigated for alleged murder or cover-up."

That's probably true - according, again, to reporting, it was the superiors of the Marines on the patrol who uncovered the facts that poked holes in the story given by those on the ground to explain the deaths, i.e. the civilians were killed by an IED.

So you are expanding and amplifying my own words to set up a straw man of positions I haven't taken. That is pretty good for a 12 year old. Perhaps if you had read my post to you where I explicitly stated that I hadn't adjudged any of them to be guilty, you would be aware that I hadn't taken that position. But it would be too much to ask you to actually respond to what I've said, rather than making up crap to ascribe to me and responding to that. You probably aren't capable of the former.

FR's long time agitator trolls who raise their hand to condemn the Pres, the US and our soldiers, always faux objectivity, but somehow manage to sound just like Chrissy and Olberman, LOL.

Sometimes word for word.

They jumped the shark on the Cheney hunting accident threads, and exposed themselves completely.

Woe is me is always their cry, once caught.

You mean where I said it would be delusional to say this is entirely a media creation? Well, apparently you have adopted that position, since you construed that as calling YOU delusional.

There's nothing difficult about that. The USMC has an active investigation of a cover-up. It has been reported, about as officially as it can be at this point, that these civilians weren't blown up by an IED - which was the 'official' position until it was found to be otherwise. I guess you can claim that the initial claim that they were blown up was correct, even though no one really believes that, and if you believe that then perhaps everything else - the investigations, the witness testimony, etc. - was just created out of thin air by the media. I guess you would also believe that the USMC would open an investigation of a cover-up without any evidence whatsoever of a cover-up and based solely on a media report that was completely fabricated.

Yes, I would still say that would be delusional.

It may be that the story is not as presently reported. There may have been other circumstances that led these Marines to view those civilians as a threat, and led to their shooting. If that is the case, why'd they claim afterwards that the civilians were blown up?

I like your idea even better. I would contribute to a fund if there were some real lawyers willing to to take on these lying spinning bastards. Please ping me if you hear of any such group action.

The linchpin of the entire Time magazine investigation:

According to eyewitnesses and local officials interviewed over the past 10 weeks, the civilians who died in Haditha on Nov. 19 were killed not by a roadside bomb but by the Marines themselves, who went on a rampage in the village after the attack, killing 15 unarmed Iraqis in their homes, including seven women and three children.

Now I grant you, they COULD be telling the truth, even if the versions change from time to time.

But if these Marines claim differently, to whom will you afford the benefit of the doubt?

Because of Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, and a large dose of racism, Japanese prisoners (as well as hapless Korean and Chinese laborers) were routinely dispatched. I heard one old Marine from Guadalcanal say that rather than stay up at night to watch Japanese prisoners (and risk falling asleep on duty), they were simply shot. Japan was not a signatory of the Geneva Convention, either.

The radio message traffic, he said, will show that the Marines came under small-arms fire after the explosion.

Out of the mouths of babes: "Eman (the now 10 year old girl) says she "heard a lot of shooting, so none of us went outside."

The shooting was going on OUTSIDE, prior to the raid on little Eman's home. Eman's home was where the Marines went first.

Take that, Murtha.
