U.S. Convoy Accidentally Hits Afghans

KABUL, Afghanistan - A convoy of U.S. troops accidentally rammed into a rush-hour traffic jam in the Afghan capital on Monday, killing at least three people and wounding 16, police said.

A riot broke out after the incident, with protesters shouting "Down to America!" and throwing stones and burning cars. Police fired into the air but failed to disperse the rioters.

Sher Shah Usafi, a police chief in Kabul, said the convoy of U.S. forces hit civilian cars in a traffic jam near a busy market and bus station in the capital.

A U.S. military spokeswoman, Lt. Tamara D. Lawrence, confirmed U.S. troops were involved in the accident but gave no details.

This from the AP about the AP while interviewing "witnesses" claiming Americans just opened fire.

"An AP reporter at the site said he saw Afghan police firing into a crowd, but the U.S. troops had already left the area."

This from the AP before the AP acknowledged an AP reporter witnessed it.

"A commander with the city’s traffic police who was at the scene said he also saw U.S. forces firing on protesters. He spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media."

These dirtwipes think they are entitled to attack our troops because they're Muslims and we're not. They are wrong and some of them paid the ultimate price for this error. No biggie.

A Police Commander wasn't authorized to speak to the

media, but he did anyway.

How much did they pay him to say what they wanted to hear?

Gunfire breaks out after Kabul accident By RAHIM FAIEZ, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 5 minutes ago

KABUL, Afghanistan - U.S. and Afghan security forces fired on protesters in the Afghan capital after a riot erupted Monday because of a deadly traffic accident involving U.S. troops, police and eyewitnesses said. At least four people were killed.

Witnesses said the incident began when a convoy of at least three U.S. Humvees came into the city from the outskirts, then rammed into a rush-hour traffic jam, hitting several civilian cars.

"The American convoy hit all the vehicles which were in their way. They didn't care about the civilians at all," said Mohammad Wali, 21, a shopkeeper who said he saw several dead bodies.

Three people were killed and 16 wounded in the crash, which sparked a riot by dozens of stone-throwing Afghans who shouted "Down with America," said Sher Shah Usafi, a Kabul police chief. U.S. forces then fired on the crowd, killing one person and wounding two, he said.

A commander with the city's traffic police who was at the scene said he also saw U.S. forces firing on protesters. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

A U.S. military spokesman, Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, confirmed U.S. troops were involved in the accident but said the military had "no indication that U.S. forces fired any shots." He said an investigation was continuing.

An AP reporter at the scene said he saw about 10 Afghan police firing into a crowd of about 50 demonstrators, and that U.S. troops had already left the area. The protesters scattered when the firing erupted, but later regrouped.

Two helicopters belonging to a NATO-led peacekeeping force hovered over the area.

State television cut transmission of a live broadcast of parliament when one angry lawmaker interrupted the proceedings to protest the incident.

"I have seen the incident. ... I come from that area and I have to tell you," Taj Mohammed Mujahid shouted before the house speaker ruled him out of order and the screen went black.

How did the US Forces fire on the protesters if they had already left?

Door #4 left to be reported, American's saw the protesters regroup and returned to the area and opened fire as reported by our super duper secret source.

I'm a few blocks away from this. We are still trying to sort it all out. Appears a traffic accident that involved US vehicles and caused Afghan civilian deaths turned into a confrontation. Afghan security forces fired at some of the "protestors" who were throwing stones, turning over cars, looting some local shops and had some weapons of their own. The extent to which US troops participated in the firing, if at all, is still being determined. There was sporadic small arms fire for several hours around the area where the embassies---to include the US--are located and where the US and NATO bases in Kabul are at. No known US or NATO casualties and there hasn't been any shooting at all for the last hour or so.

Kabul is pretty calm most of the time, but those who live or have been stationed in the swath of land from the Balkans to Bengal are well aware that rumors and half-truths often spur the people of those areas to deadly action--so we'll see what the next 24 hours brings.

P.S. We had a wonderful and very moving Memorial Day service this morning; to include reading the names one-by-one of each of the 93 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who were killed in Afghanistan in the year since the last Memorial Day.
