Good points...I hadn't thought of that...
I am just trying to figure out if there is someone on the horizon that isn't a Senator or House member...that could sneak up on the dems...
So far, almost all of the candidates on both sides, are sitting or ex-Senators...YIKES!
From the way the Senate has been acting the last few years, I wouldn't want any Senator, (with the exception of perhaps, Sessions, Cornyn, or Kyl)...they all seem to already think they are too powerful.
Ex-Governors seem to make good POTUS candidates, but Jeb is out..and I don't know of any conservative Governors, do you?
"For the past month I've been shocked at how arrogant and our of touch they are and what is this Gallup poll they are quoting that says the majority of the nation wants the Senate bill? If that is true then people haven't read what is in the bill and that scares me more than anything."
I sent them an e-mail to that effect, AC.
Something to the effect that they need to hold on to their monicker "Beltway Boys" 'cause they couldn't be further from reality outside the beltway. From the way they spoke about the Senate bill, they couldn't have read it.
No more beltway boys for me. Bye, Fred. Bye Mort. OUDDAHEA!
Great post, but of course I do have one point of disagreement with you (wouldn't ya know it?).
The bombings brought Hanoi to its knees, and led to Nixon's Peace with Honor strategy, which led to final peace agreement ending the war in January, 1973.
the "final peace agreement" led to the end of our involvement in the war, but it didn't end the war. In fact it led to the North Vietnamese communists winning the war and the eventual deaths of several million people in Southeast Asia.
As of this posting CBS Face The Nation web page has a 14 minute clip with McConnell and Shumer, which I assume is everthing except their "roundtable."
It seems that by voting Republican, we merely get to determine how slowly we descend into hell.
Great catch, thanks.
Great analysis and I agree completely with the likely outcome, if we had been allowed to engage the North Vietnamese when they broke their word and the peace treaty. As you point out Kerry and Murtha would like to repeat this betrayal in the WOT. That's one reason I agree with Democrats when they say that "Iraq is Vietnam all over again," but then I have to explain to them that the left's "victory" over Nixon in Vietnam was not some glorious thing but was one of the lowest points in the history of western civilization.
There will be a serious reexamination of the entire "peace movement" and the history of the Vietnam war someday that will absolutely eviscerate these people. Kerry, Fonda and friends will be spat on every time they go out in public.
to give you an idea I'm only up to your post 646 right now. I hope to have stuff concluded tonight, or tomorrow night at the latest. This has been a great thread, even if a rather single issue dominated one, but the shows were that way as well.
See my post # 674 on the topic of American's views of our own laws...
Ted Kennedy eats almonds????
BTW, in 1975, our first A-10s and F-15s were being delivered to the combat wings. Imagine them over the concentrated columns of armor of the North Vietnamese forces! F-15s on top flying CAP against MIGs, with A-10s raking T-72s and BMPs with 20MM depleted shells from their Volkswagen-sized gatling guns!
Duh!!! 30MM gatling gun!!!!!!
George Allen was Governor of Virginia from '94 to '98 before being elected to the Senate in 2000. He also was elected as a Congressman in a special election in '91, filling out the term of Congressman Slaughter, who had resigned. He didn't run for re-election but ran for the governors post instead.
So far I like what I've seen and heard, with some minor qualms. Of course, at this point in 1990 I liked what I had seen and heard about Bill Clinton, so I'm keeping my powder dry...
Yes, and it fires depleted uranium tank killer bullets
The gun came first then they built the A10 "Warthog" around the gun.
The Thunderbolt II's 30mm GAU-8/A Gatling gun can fire 3,900 rounds a minute and can defeat an array of ground targets to include tanks.
Link here.
I walked up to one on the flight line when I first encountered it at Peterson AFB. Probably 1977. I put my finger in one of the gun barrels. The rifling felt as sharp as a ginsu knife!
My major qualms about Sen. Allen is his "less than quick" comebacks when he is either questioned in an interview, or id debating on TV...
People have made fun of President Bush all of these years...but even Bush thinks quicker on his feet than Allen seems to.
My first real internal "alert" was last year when he was asked whether President Bush should meet with Cindy Sheehan when she was in Crawford protesting...and Allen said he should...
I remember a lot of we Allen fans were a little disappointed..but really, no big deal....but, I think it has made me more leery about him...but, like you pointed out, he does have the executive experience of being a Governor..which I think is much better on a POTUS resume, than being a Senator.
Great tagline! I finally read one that my own doesn't have an answer for.
Glad I'm not the only one. I've pretty much sworn off Fox since they have been so pro on this whole situation. Too bad they have turned to the dark side... but, then, their ratings don't seem to be reflecting it (yet).
