MONTGOMERY, Ala.--Most politicians would kill for--or spend millions of dollars to acquire--the name recognition Roy Moore has in Alabama. Not necessarily the kind of name recognition, mind you. Just the level.
That's because here, and across the country, he's known not just as Roy Moore, but as "Roy Moore, Ten Commandments Judge"--the Southern Baptist-cum-chief justice of Alabama who defied a federal court order to remove his 2 1/2-ton monument to the Commandments from the state courthouse, and lost his job as a result. It's a moniker that wins him automatic support in some quarters, and deafens ears before he even opens his mouth in others. And as he runs for the Republican nomination for governor in his native state, that notoriety is both a blessing and a curse.

Hmmmm, backbone, moral convictions and belief that the STATE has authority in decisions regarding where the 10 Commandments maybe displayed, and not some Federal judge who knows neither the town, county or city in which the display.
I've never heard his name; but based upon this one sample point (granted, you need more samples to form an informed opinion), I'm inclined to like the man.
bttt for Judge Roy Moore....Hope he wins!
Yeah, imagine that: someone running for the 'Pub nom' that sounds like an actual Conservative...will miracles never cease.
And the entire state of Alabama is on "Soul Patrol" euphoria.
Enlighten me: what do you mean by "Soul Patrol"?
"Putting himself above the law is exactly what Mr.Moore was accused of doing."He had the temerity to stand up for his beliefs, and in the process angered the liberal/socialist elite. If i were an Alabamian he'd have my vote based on that alone.
I think this guy is an Ego Maniac and I don't trust him. That whole thing with the Ten commandments Monument was a big ego media thing...and like it or not, there are other religions in this country.
I believe what is already there historically should be given a pass....but to now put in a distinctly Christian monument, no way. I want the government OUT of my religion.Period.
Taylor Hicks winning 'American Idol.' Alabama is the happiest state in the country and this is a plus for the incumbant.
He's trailing by 50 points in the polls so I think that he's probably toast.
Ah, an Idol reference--that would explain my complete ignorance...thank God ;)
Did you read the article and his take on other religions?
Yup. Toast. (I'm in Mobile)
It takes a while. Some people never recover.
Then you oppose the actions of the federal judge in the case who took it upon himself to completely ignore the wording of the First and Ninth Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America, right?
Moore's opinion is that no religion other than Judaism or Christianity has any place in the U.S. But I believe it was Madison who asked the question, ""Who is it who cannot see that the same who would consecrate Christianity above all other religions would then have to consecrate a particular sect of Christians above all other sects?" By placing a monument to the 10 Commandments containing a version that differed from the version taught by Catholics and Jews that is exactly what Moore was doing.

Which might explain why I watch precisely zero TV--who needs it w/ the Internet, video games and *gasp!* books :)
