It's the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend. We've had our silliness thread to start things off now, how about this:
Who do you think had the best cameo performance in any movie or TV show? You know, someone who had a bit part but stole the show for you.
Mel Gibson when he nails Jesus to the cross. Symbolic of the fact that he holds himself accountable first and foremost for Christ's death.
High on my list:
An episode of "That Girl." Marlo Thomas bumps into a Catholic priest -- literally. She turns to him in embarassment, and say, "Excuse me, father." The priest replies, "That's all right, my child."
Who was playing the priest? Danny Thomas.
I loved his shadow on the wall in the "Psycho" remake. That was classy of that director to do that.
I thought Brad Pitt was pretty darn funny in the movie "Snatch". Of course, Dennis Hopper in the movie "True Romance" is a classic.
I sat down by myself and watched. I do like Bob Newhart, but this episode didn't do much for me--it was OK, but I was sitting there thinking "This is what I've been missing? Big deal."
Then he gets hit by a golfball on the head, and I'm thinking "Well, this is a surprising way to end a show, but I wish I didn't waste my time watching this..."
Then Bob turns on the light and says "Emily?"
I literally fell on the floor, and stayed there, laughing, for three minutes.
Jack Nicholson, doing his Dan Rather impression, in Broadcast News.
I love the little scene in "Stayin Alive," where John Travolta, walking down the street, bumps into a passer-by who briefly turns around: the director of the movie, Sylvester Stallone.
Ben Stein in Ferris Bueler...... background blackboard notes on monetary policy
Supposedly director George Stevens asked him to "put more awe into it" and Wayne tried again, saying "Awwww, truly this was the Son of God!"
That wasn't a cameo -- just a minor role. Funny, tho.
I don't know if it's a 'cameo', like the others listed here, but I thought it was wonderfully ironic to have the REAL Chuck Yaeger in 'The Right Stuff' in the bar with the actor playing him.
Three. Body Snatchers in the 90's takes place on a military base and the surrounding town.
Hardly anyone saw it, but Forest Whitaker was excellent in it. Not as good as the other two but definitely a good paranoid SF horror flick.
How about Barbara Streisand showing up on "Coffee Talk" in SNL? I'm getting VERCLEMPT just thinking about it.
Although the BEST CAMEO EVER was Dennis Hooper giving Christopher Walken a history lesson on Scillians in "rue Romance".
One more...Reese Witherspoon flashing a picture of her father (Richard Speck) in "Freeway"--blink and you'll miss that one.
Aw, ya beat me by about 50 posts. ;)
Buster Keaton in It's a Mad Mad Mad Word
Actually I had forgotten about that one...I also saw it, tho do not remember much about it...I especially like forest Whitaker, I think he is just one fine actor...I will have to remember to watch that one again, should it come up on TV...
That was the first one I thought of.
