We may have lost this battle, but we are going to win the war!
Last night, 23 Republican Senators voted in favor of a bill (S. 2611 - the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006) that will give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens; but the battle is far from over and the movement to secure our borders first has gained a great deal of momentum.
Two weeks ago, Senate leaders boasted that they had over 70 votes in favor of S. 2611. They fell well short of that number and the credit goes to all of you. Your Blast Faxes and calls changed some hearts and minds and you are still having a profound effect!
This legislation will now move to a House-Senate Conference Committee which will attempt to reconcile this Senate amnesty bill with the enforcement-only bill that has already passed the House of Representatives; and this shift in momentum has further emboldened House leaders who support securing our borders first to stand firm and has significantly increased the chances that the legislation that is eventually passed by our Congress will contain NO significant amnesty provisions.
However, a lot can still happen in the coming weeks, but you have our promise that we will continue the fight until this battle is won.
You can see how your Senators voted below.

Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Mexico, was co-author and vote for amnesty!
Shouldn't this be called "The Voter Registration Act of 2006?"
He used to be. I don't know who had the gun to his head, but this vote was just wrong. I told the staff that if he voted for this bill I was done with him. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I will not vote for him again.
I have to agree with your statement except for the term racist. What European, German, Chinese, Japanese, Muslim, or Mexican for example wants to become the minority party of their home country? I admit I just don't know how to justify this thinking but I certainly do understand it.
I am disappointed however.
My Senator is a Communist who cites Scottish Law, bails out leftist murderers, thinks he alone was the Warren Commision, and should be tried for treason against America. In 1776 he would have lined up against a wall.
He's a pathetic pipsqueak, a whiny, white-guilt RINO who needs to be retired!
My Okies did fine, thank you.
Big surprise there with Mel Martinez... Also no big surprise everyone's favorite RINO John McCain also voted yes.
Brownback is a RINO. He sold us out, and if you check his voting record, he ususally votes with the liberals. I have known him since the mid 60's when we were in College together, and it has been all about Sam.
Damn that SANTORUM!!!! Freaking sellout RINO.. how dare he vote against Amnesty... I'm going to sit on my hands come November no way I could vote for that guy.
Levin voted as I expected ......Stabenow must be worried about the next election .......I have voted against Dems at every opportunity and will continue to do so

Frist needs to lose his leader's seat. Now.
Looks like we have a new 'Gang of 22'. sellout rinos.
I'm shocked that the twitter twins voted yes. Just shocked.
Ummm, have you noticed
that despite media hype,
despite web-based hype,
people at bus stops
do not talk immigration,
people out shopping
don't talk about it,
people at the mall don't talk
about illegals . . .
It's a non-issue
among the general public!
The only people
who care are the groups
funding the hype! Look around.
Politicians who
"embrace" this topic
will get laughed at by voters
because no one cares!
The Dems don't represent us, the taxpayers. They represent the Mexicans!!!
