Yeah, but then you would pay the Alternative Minimum Tax which was designed to "ding" rich folk.

Since it was not indexed for inflation, today the average two wage earner families are "DINGED" big time!

Admittedly, $48B isn't much in the great scheme of things. But, any money not in the hands of a bureaucrat will do much more good than evil. The government will find another source for their "lost" revenue. After all, tax cuts must be "PAID FOR" don'tcha know?..................

Hey, at this rate look for the income tax to be ended soon. It was instituted to finance WW I.

And then the economy will do better and they will claim it has nothing to do with "tax cuts for the rich"

When did Sales Tax get implemented?

And when did property tax get started, for that matter? Mine went through the roof when I moved, not that I liked it all that much before.

Below is a previous post of mine. The article I reference indicates that sales taxes came into being during the Depression era. Hope this helps. - OB1

How do you pay property tax during a depression? (Vanity)

Yes, they did pay property taxes during the depression but the default rate jumped dramatically. See This Article.

They had numerous tax revolts across the nation that put pressure on politicians to create tax limitation legislation, homestead exemptions, reductions in property value assessments etc.

The only problem was the local governments had to replace these lost taxes, so this is about the time you saw the beginning of state and local sales taxes. - OB1

Yeah, but one beautiful thing about the AMT is that it disproportionately affects high-priced metro areas where the salaries and cost of living are inflated -- like New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Boston, etc.

In other words, it's a tax that primarily affects Democrats.

Life is filled with ironies, ain't it?

Alot of people like me have moved over this time from 2003 to now.

How hard are they going to work to find us and give us whatever "refund" we are entitled to? What period does the refund cover?

Well, this is a good sign. I suppose this means that we won't be seeing "temporary" guest worker status renewed for longer than 108 years for any given individual.

The Income Tax was first imposed during the Civil War and re-imposed during the First World War. So Maybe it is in the twilight of its existence!

I hope!

I'd rather the Feds kept the 15 billion and build two walls;
one on the Mexican border and one on the Canadian.

How about federal income tax?

Sixteenth Amendment, 1913.Do you know what your taxes are, or just what is at the bottom of your pay stub?
